Abstract

Method has the following steps: checking that the temperature indicated by the sensor is above the external air temperature; if true, determination of the amount of heat supplied to the coolant by the engine within a given period and checking that it exceeds a threshold value; if true, determination of a variable representing the ability of the vehicle to cool the coolant and from this determination of a maximum possible coolant temperature and finally; output of a warning signal if this temperature limit is exceeded. - The invention also relates to a corresponding computer program for monitoring a coolant temperature sensor, a control unit for monitoring a coolant temperature sensor and a vehicle equipped with an external temperature sensor and an inventive control unit.
