The invention relates to agricultural production. The purpose of the invention is to reduce the cost and improve the convenience of introducing mulch. The method includes loosening the soil, harvesting, transporting and introducing mulch material into the rows of row crops. At the same time, the masses of crushed dry stems and fennel shoots in doses of 0.3 ... 0.5 t / ha are taken as mulch. To do this, cut fennel stems 1.5 ... 2.3 m high after harvesting the seeds (the ends of the stems with umbrellas), cut off the rest, mow them, cut them smaller, for example, on choppers 1-2 cm in length and stored under sheds and put into plant spacing in the required norm of 0.3 ... 0.5 t / ha, which is obtained annually from fennel seed sowing in an amount of 10 ... 25 t per 1 ha. Further, fennel heaps cover the surface of the soil.
