Abstract
1. A probe comprising: a) a substantially hollow body; b) a cannula attached to the distal end of the body; c) a plurality of fiber optic cables passing through the hollow body, each of the plurality of fiber optic cables having an optical fiber and passing through the cannula; and d) the open portion of the optical fibers, with the open portion of the optical fibers protruding beyond the distal end of the cannula, with the open portion of the optical fibers enclosed in a nitinol tube that is curved with a radius of approximately 4.5 mm to 15.0 mm. 2. The probe of claim 1, wherein the nitinol tube is bent at an angle of approximately 30-45 °. 3. The probe of claim 1, wherein one or more of the plurality of optical fibers has an outer diameter of from about 100 microns to about 250 microns. The probe of claim 1, wherein the open portion extends beyond the distal end of the cannula by a distance of approximately 3.0 mm to 8.0 mm. The probe of claim 4, wherein the open portion extends beyond the distal end of the cannula by a distance of approximately 4.0 mm to 6.0 mm. The probe of claim 1, wherein the open portion extends beyond the distal end of the cannula by a distance of approximately 8.0 mm to 14.0 mm. The probe of claim 6, wherein the open portion extends beyond the distal end of the cannula by a distance of approximately 11.0 mm to 13.0 mm. The probe according to claim. 1, in which the outer diameter of the open part is coated with an anti-friction material.
