Abstract

The machine patented is shown in schematically in next figure. It has been designed for the continuous production of towpregs of fibres preimpregnated with thermoplastic powder, to be transformed into composite structures by different processing techniques. This technique gives the possibility to produce towpregs at a lower cost without using, as it is the case of the conventional processes, solvents and/or fusion of the thermoplastic. With this machine, great quantities of glass fibre/polypropylene and glass fibre/polyamide towpregs were produced having fibre weight content between 30 and 80 %. These towpregs have already been processed by hot plate press, pultrusion and filament winding. The structures produce have shown good mechanical properties.
