Abstract

An absorbent body 3 intended to form the absorbent element in an absorbent article, such as a nappy (diaper), an incontinence protector or a sanitary towel, and it includes a first absorbent layer 16 which, during use, is to face the user and a second absorbent layer 17 which is, during use, to be separate from the user. According to the invention, the absorbent body 3 includes at least two mutually distinct downy cellulose bodies in which the greater part of the fibre structure of the first absorbent layer 16 is composed of a first type of downy cellulose body which has a low liquid dispersion capacity and a critical volume which exceeds 8 cm3/g at 2.5 kPa, whilst the greater part of the fibre structure of the second absorbent layer 17 is composed of a different type of downy cellulose body which has a low critical volume of 8 cm3/g at 2.5 kPa and a liquid dispersion capacity which is greater than the downy cellulose body of the first absorbent layer 16. The second absorbent layer 17, consequently, will be highly capable of draining liquid from the first absorbent layer 16. The second absorbent layer 17 includes superabsorbent material which is generally mixed uniformly in the downy cellulose body within at least one area of the layer 17. The present invention is applicable, for example, to the nappy industry. <IMAGE>
