Abstract

The branching device (10) electrically connects a main cable (1) to a secondary cable (2). The device has contact elements (5) for making an electrical connection at contact points of a socket into which a plug of the secondary cable can be plugged. The contact elements have an insulating cutting clamp (11) for contacting the conductors of the main cable. At least one of the contact elements has a clamp contact (12) electrically connected to the cutting clamp. This is flat and locally defines a plane, whereby a clamping effect of the clamp contact results from a spring force acting along the plane. Independent claims also cover a branching system, a contact element, a contact system and a multiple socket system.
