Abstract

Se refiere a un metodo para la oxidacion y descomposicion termica de cloruros metalicos, que conduce a una separacion eficiente y efectiva de elementos molestos tales como el hierro y aluminio de metales valiosos tales como el cobre y niquel. En primera instancia, la oxidacion, especialmente del hierro, se efectua en un reactor electrolitico, en donde el hierro ferroso se oxida a fernico. En una segunda modalidad la solucion oxidada se trata en un reactor descomponedor hidrotermico, en donde los cloruros metalicos trivalentes descomponibles forman oxidos y los cloruros metalicos divalentes forman cloruros basicos. Estos ultimos son solubles en acido clorhidrico diluido y pueden redisolverse selectivamente de los solidos hidrotermicos, lo que produce una separacion limpia. El acido clorhidrico se recupera del reactor hidrotermico.
