Abstract

Un elemento de tuberia tiene una ranura circunferencial con una porcion de superficie orientada en un angulo con respecto a su eje longitudinal; una porcion de superficie de la ranura adyacente a la porcion de superficie en angulo esta orientada perpendicularmente al eje longitudinal; un acoplamiento mecanico tiene chavetas de proyeccion que se acoplan a la ranura; las chavetas tienen superficies de contacto que entran en contacto con las partes de la superficie perpendicular y en angulo de la ranura; cuando el elemento de tuberia y el acoplamiento se usan en combinacion para formar una junta de tuberia, la carga axial en la tuberia, resistida por el acoplamiento mecanico, se comparte entre las porciones de superficie perpendicular y angulada, lo que resulta en una junta de tuberia que puede soportar una presion interna mayor que si la carga axial fue soportada solo por la porcion de superficie perpendicular.
