Abstract
monitoring system configured to monitor operation of a dairy shed or plant is described. The dairy shed or plant includes a dispensing system for dispensing chemicals, having one or more storage reservoirs, each for containing a respective chemical solution. The dispensing system further includes a mixing system, and a dosing system coupled to the one or more storage reservoirs and to a water source, for selectively dispensing one or more of the chemical solutions into the mixing system to form a mixed solution with water from the water source. A user interface is provided for receiving dispensing instructions from a user, and at least one controller is configured to operate the dosing system in accordance with the dispensing instructions. One or more sensors are arranged to sense an indication of a quantity of chemical solution remaining in the respective one or more storage reservoirs. The at least one controller is configured to receive the sensed indication of the quantity of chemical solution remaining in the respective one or more storage reservoirs, and determine a quantity of the respective chemical solutions used in a given time period. An invoice for the quantity of the respective chemical solutions used in a given period is then generated.
Claims (21)
1. A monitoring system associated with the operation of a dairy shed or plant, the system being configured to monitor a dispensing system for dispensing chemicals, 5 wherein the dispensing system includes: one or more storage reservoirs, each for containing a respective chemical solution, a water source, a mixing system, 10 a dosing system coupled to the one or more storage reservoirs and to the water source, for selectively dispensing one or more of the chemical solutions into the mixing system to form a mixed solution with water from the water source, a user interface for receiving dispensing instructions from a user, and at least one controller, wherein the at least one controller is configured to operate the 15 dosing system in accordance with the dispensing instructions, wherein the monitoring system: includes one or more sensors arranged to sense an indication of a quantity of chemical solution remaining in the respective one or more storage reservoirs, wherein the at least one controller is configured to receive the sensed indication 20 of the quantity of chemical solution remaining in the respective one or more storage reservoirs, and determine a quantity of the respective chemical solutions used in a given time period; and is configured to generate an invoice for the quantity of the respective chemical solutions used in a given period. 25
2. The monitoring system of claim 1, wherein the one or more storage reservoirs are at least two storage reservoirs.
3. The monitoring system of claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the one or more sensors 30 arranged to sense the indication of the quantity of chemical solution remaining in the respective one or more storage reservoirs are configured to directly sense the quantity of chemical solution remaining in the respective one or more storage reservoirs.
4. The monitoring system of claim 3, wherein the one or more sensors include one 35 or more continuous level sensors configured to measure a level of the chemical solution across a range of levels. 322161NZDIV5 37
5. The monitoring system of claim 3 or claim 4, wherein the one or more sensors include one or more weight sensors configured to sense a weight of the respective one or more storage reservoirs. 5
6. The monitoring system of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the at least one controller is configured to determine whether replenishment of at least one of the respective chemical solutions is required based on the sensed indication of quantity.
7. The monitoring system of claim 6, including transmitting an order for 10 replenishment of the chemical solution to a supplier of the chemical solution, if replenishment is determined to be required.
8. The monitoring system of claim 6 or claim 7, wherein replenishment of the chemical solution includes replacement of the storage reservoir. 15
9. The monitoring system of any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein at least one of the one or more storage reservoirs includes a container having a capacity of greater than 200 litres. 20
10. The monitoring system of any one of claims 1 to 9, wherein at least one of the one or more storage reservoirs includes a container having a capacity of about 1000 litres.
11. The monitoring system of any one of claims 1 to 10, wherein at least one of the 25 one or more storage reservoirs is made of a plastics material.
12. The monitoring system of claim 11, wherein the plastics material is recyclable.
13. An automated method for dispensing chemicals in operation of a dairy shed or 30 plant, including: operating a dosing system to selectively dispense one or more chemical solutions from one or more storage reservoirs, each of the one or more storage reservoirs containing a respective chemical solution, into a mixing system with water to form a mixed solution, wherein the dosing system is operated in accordance with dispensing 35 instructions; receiving a sensed indication of a quantity of chemical solution remaining in the respective one or more storage reservoirs from one or more sensors; 322161NZDIV5 38 determining a quantity of the respective chemical solutions used in a given time period; and generating an invoice for the quantity of the respective chemical solutions used in a given period. 5
14. The automated method of claim 13, wherein the one or more storage reservoirs are at least two storage reservoirs.
15. The automated method of claim 13 or claim 14, further including determining 10 whether replenishment of at least one of the respective chemical solutions is required based on the sensed indication of quantity.
16. The automated method of claim 15, further including transmitting, if required, an order for replenishment of the chemical solution to a supplier of the chemical solution. 15
17. The automated method of claim 16, including delivering a replacement storage reservoir to the dairy shed or plant in response to receiving the order for replenishment of the chemical system. 20
18. The automated method of any one of claims 13 to 17, wherein at least one of the one or more storage reservoirs includes a container having a capacity of greater than 200 litres.
19. The automated method of any one of claims 13 to 19, wherein at least one of the 25 one or more storage reservoirs includes a container having a capacity of about 1000 litres.
20. The automated method of any one of claims 13 to 20, wherein at least one of the one or more storage reservoirs is made of a plastics material. 30
21. The automated method of claim 20, wherein the plastics material is recyclable.
