Abstract

The invention relates to a method of storing in, and retrieving containers, from a storage facility by way of an automated container transport system and a container transfer installation for carrying out the method. There being a gantry crane (6) and a storage-facility crane (12) that can retrieve from or place containers (1) in a storage facility (3, 15), wherein the gantry crane (6) places containers (1) on pallets (19) or transverse conveying carriages (18) provided on a take-over carriage (8; 8a, 8b) having an upper (1) and lower level (11), for the containers (1) to be transversely transferred to a distributor vehicle (9; 9a, 9b) having an upper and lower level which can move parallel to the storage facility (3, 15), the containers (1) being transferred from the distributor vehicle (9; 9a, 9b) to a stationary transfer station (10) having an upper and lower level to be lifted by the storage facility crane (12) for storage in the storage facility (3, 15). The invention providing an accelerated container transfer process.
