Abstract

For convenience, beverage containers such as bottles are often transported in cartons. Existing cartons range in material and configuration, and often offer minimal or complex protection to the beverage containers. The present invention addresses this issue by providing cartons with article protection features which are relatively simpler to assemble and which offer better means of protecting the beverage containers. In this respect the present invention provides a carton for holding a plurality of containers, the carton comprising: a plurality of panels that extends at least partially around an interior of the carton, the plurality of panels comprises a first top panel, a second top panel, and a side panel, the first top panel at least partially overlapping the second top panel, wherein the second top panel extends at least partially along the interior of the carton, and the first top panel extends at least partially along an outer side of the second top panel; and a crown retention panel foldably connected to the second top panel along a fold line, an attachment flap being foldably connected to the crown retention panel; wherein at least a portion of the crown retention panel is spaced apart from the side panel in the interior of the carton, a portion of the second top panel extends from the fold line toward the side panel, and at least a portion of the attachment flap is at least partially in face-to-face contact with the side panel. The foldability of the article protection features provide for a more efficient assembly process. Further, the design and configuration provides for a more tailored fit, resulting in relatively better protection to the beverage containers.
