Abstract

585906 Disclosed is a computer-implemented method for hosting low-latency streaming interactive audio/video (A/V). The method includes executing one or more applications or video games, receiving packet streams from users and routing the packets to the one or more applications or video games. The packet streams include user control input to the games or applications. One or more of the applications or video games are operable to compute audio/video (A/V) data (1529) in response to the user control input. The method also includes receiving the A/V data (1529) from the one or more applications or video games and compressing portions of the A/V data (1529) in parallel using plurality of processing units (1530) to generate low-latency streaming compressed A/V data (1539). This low-latency streaming compressed A/V data (1539) is then routed to each of the users over a corresponding communication channel, at least a portion of which includes public network components. The operations of receiving packet streams from users, compressing portions of the A/V data (1529), and routing the low latency streaming compressed A/V data (1539) to each of the users are performed with a low latency such that the users have the perception that the selected video game or application is responding instantly to the user control input.
