Abstract
The use and preparation of medicaments for treating HIV in a mammal by administering an effective amount of therapeutic cells, the therapeutic cells expressing a membrane-bound, proteinaceous chimeric receptor comprising: 1. an extracellular portion which includes a fragment of CD4 that is capable of specifically recognising and binding an HIV-infected cell but does not mediate HIV infection; and 2. an intracellular portion that is capable of signaling the therapeutic cell to destroy the receptor-bound HIV-infected cell.
