Abstract

The preparation contains the alkaloid trigonelline or trigonellic acid. The preparation is preferably derived from an extract from a plant of the subfamily Trigonella and especially from an extract from the plant fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum).

However, none of these products has had the desired effect, or they have suffered from considerable side-effects. ;n ;Thinning or receding of hair is usually due to a marked tightening of the scalp, so that the circulation of blood to the hair follicles is interrupted or stopped. The decreased supply of nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles has an unfavourable influence on the production of the protein keratin, which is responsible for hair growth. ;The object of the invention is to develop a product comprising natural substances and which stimulates blood circulation in the scalp. ;This problem is solved in that the product contains trigonelline. ;(fz ;^ 23 JAN199fZj; ;This substance widens the blood vessels, so that there is a better supply of nutrients to the hair follicles which are restored and this is accompanied by a hypertrichosis, i. e. a lenghtening, thickening and increased pigmentation of the hair. ;The invention in one aspect comprises a hair restoring product for restoring, as well as stimulating and increasing hair growth in living organisms, ;characterised in that the product contains trigonelline and at least one vitamin. ;The invention also consists in a process for producing such a hair restoring product characterised in that ;(a) Nipastate is contained as a preservative, or ;(b) The hair restoring product is brought in dry or liquid state into a tea form or into a fine-grained form suitable for, in use, forming an instant tea, or ;(c) The hair restoring product is produced in liquid form and is placed in a dropping bottle. ;,c t v ;■o ;- 2 - ;22600 ;Trigonelline can be synthetically produced. However, preference is given to an extract from plants of the subfamily Trigonella ana in particular from fenugreek (trigonella phoenum graecum). This extract can be obtained particularly effectively from fenugreek seed, by allowing the latter to swell and then extracting them with water. Another possibility to obtain the extract is cold pressing and using the juice and/or the mash. ;Preference is given to a trigonelline, which contains caffearine or, in particular, N-methylnicotinyl-3-carboxyl betaine acid or N-methylpyridine-3-carboxyl betaine acid. Steroidal glycosides and/or proteins with a high proportion of lysine and tryptophane can also be present, as can galactose-like mucilage. ;If vitamin B6 is added to the trigonelline extract, the action of the product is increased, because vitamin B6 is a main nutrient for the hair and consequently contributes to healthy hair growth. ;An alcohol and a preservative should be added to the extract, so that a broad-spectrum tonic is obtained. ;The trigonelline can also be mixed with a further aqueous fenugreek extract, so that not only is its action improved, but also its spectrum of activity is widened. ;One possible administration form is a solution in dropping bottles. However, the product can also be packed in capsules. In both cases, it is administered orally. However, other possibilities are conceivable and are also covered by the inventive concept. Particu- ;t - ;lar mention is made of the tea form and in particular instant tea in spray form. ;/[» -\ 23JAN199fr * 226001 G o The tea form is preferably prepared by taking the extract of the seeds from fenugreek which are available in normal trade (usually only from 20 to 30% by weight water) and mixing it with vitamin B6, alcohol and nipastate (nipastate being a preservative). Twenty drops of this liquid in a 1/4 litre of water provides a fluid like a tea herein referred to as a tea form.

Encapsulation of any liquid is preferably by conventional proprietary means to provide a decomposable ingestable capsule for example using gelatine.

An example of the tea form was tested in which 0.5ml contained 273 mg of fenugreek extract, 5mg of vitamin B6, 11.4%v/v alcohol and 0.1 gms/litre of nipastate. 20 drops were taken every morning before breakfast in a 1/4 litre of cold water. The first positive signs of the effect of the product on the scalp were visible after 3 to 5 weeks.

Generally alcohol and nipastate are not used in the encapsulated form. Instead use is made of the vitaminized form of riboflavin, nicotinamide, calcium pantothenate and folic acid. The proportions of these substances are preferably 1.5 mg of riboflavin, lOmg of nicotinamide, 8mg b(+) -calcium pantothenate and 0.4mg of folic acid. 3 226001

Claims

WHAT WE CLAIM IS:

1. A hair restoring product for restoring, as well as stimulating and increasing hair growth in living organisms, characterized in that the product contains trigonelline and at least one vitamin.

2. A hair restoring product according to claim 1, characterized in that the at least one vitamin includes Vitamin B6.

3. A hair restoring product according to claim 1 wherein said at least one vitamin includes riboflavin and/or nicotinamide and/or calcium pantothenate and/or folic acid.

4. A hair restoring product according to claim 3 wherein Vitamin B6 is also present.

5. A hair restoring product according to any one of the preceding claims,characterized in that the product comprises an extract of a plant from the subfamily Trigonella.

6. A hair restoring product according to claim 5, characterized in that it comprises an extract of the plant fenugreek (trigonella phoenum graecum).

7. A hair restoring product according to either claim 5 or claim 6, characterized in that it comprises an extract from the seed of the plant from the subfamily Trigonella.

8. A hair restoring product according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the product contains steroidal glycosides.

11. A hair restoring product according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that ethanol is contained therein.

13. A process for producing the hair restoring product according to any one of the claims 1 to 12, characterized in that the product is enveloped in a decomposable capsule for ingestion.

14. A process for producing the hair restoring product according to any one of the claims 1 to 12, characterized in that the hair restoring product is brought in dry or liquid state into a tea form or into a fine-grained form suitable for, in use, forming an instant tea.

15. A process for producing the hair restoring product according to any one of the claims 1 to 12, characterized in that the hair restoring product is produced in liquid form and is placed in a dropping bottle.

16. A process according to any one of the claims 13 - 15, characterized in that seeds of the plant fenugreek (trigonella phoenum graecum) are cold pressed and the juice and/or mash is used in the production of the hair restoring product. -5- 226001
