Abstract

The optical data carrier is provided by a plastics laminate (1) with a microscopic fine relief structure (5) sandwiched between 2 protective layers. An adhesive layer (7) applied to the surface of the plastics laminate allows the data carrier to be attached to a protected object. An information track is provided by at least 2 parallel strips, each having an optical marking (6) over its full width, exhibiting the relief structure, with an optical characteristic which can be irreversibly altered by applied energy, for write-in of information.
