Abstract

Fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av silika xerogel ved hydrolyse og polykondensasjon av et tetraalkoksysilan for å danne en alkogel som er et silikaskjelett omgitt av vandig alkohol, hvorefter den vandige alkohol fjernes ved fordampning. Den dannede alkogel bringes i kontakt med en løsning av et tetraalkoksysilan, kontakten opprettholdes ved eller over romtemperatur for å styrke silikaskjelettet, hvorefter gelen tørkes langsomt ved eller over romtemperatur og ved omtrentlig atmosfærisk trykk. Før alkogelen bringes i kontakt med løsningen av tetraalkoksysilan kan den vaskes med en løsning (f.eks. vandig alkohol) for å endre sammensetningen av den vandige alkohol som omgir silikaskjelettet eller endre funksjonelle grupper på overflaten av alkogelen.
