Abstract

En fremgangsmåte for å eliminere skadelige substanser i en prosessvæske. Prosessvæsken har en første pH og, i tillegg til de nevnte skadelige substansene, omfatter den metallioner og suspendert materiale. Karbondioksid tilsettes til prosessvæsken for å bringe prosessvæsken til en andre pH, som er lavere enn den første pH. Derved omfatter metallionene hydroksidbyggere, der karbondioksidet (CO) tilsettes i en mengde som gjør at den andre pH blir mellom 8 og 6,5, slik at karbondioksidet primært danner bikarbonationer (HCO") med en pH-buffereffekt og metallionene primært danner metallhydroksider. Deretter koagulerer eller agglomererer de skadelige substansene med metallhydroksidene og adheres til det suspenderte materialet slik at de blir inaktive. Fremgangsmåten benyttes fordelaktig i forbindelse med masse- og/eller papirfremstillingsprosesser.
