Abstract

It introduces two new main components for the MMS infrastructure; a content home locator (CHL) designed to determine the home environment of the service provider that originally delivered a data object in transmission by examining a home environment identity included in a policy reference of a rule associated with the data object, a content debit protocol (CBP) bound by a CBP able to exchange rules and billing information regarding the data object with a counterparty (CBP) in the home environment of the data object determined by the CHL. Billing information provided by the CBT from the home environment of the data object is stored in an account module (AM) to charge the recipient in case of download or the sender in case of forwarding of the data object and to credit the service provider. By means of the present invention, service providers are able to charge for value-added data objects, for example MMSs, downloads or transfers in environments outside the home environment of the data objects.
