Abstract

Copolymers of hydrophobic acrylic or methacrylic acid esters whose alcohol component is derived from a mixture of polyglycols and polyglycol ethers, with hydrophilic, ethylenically unsaturated comonomers, where, in the copolymer, i) all or virtually all the free OH groups have been etherified, esterified or converted into urethane groups, and/or ii) the acid used as catalyst in the esterification has been neutralised by addition of amine, are suitable as demulsifying agents for crude oil.
