Abstract

The rotationally-stabilised projectile is discharged from a firearm, having a lengthwise body with a driving band on the rear end working with the rifling in the barrel. The band (14) is of distorting and non-metallic material, so that some parts of it are forced into the grooves of the rifling. It can be arranged to separate from the body after firing, under the effect of centrifugal force and/or air resistance, and to disintegrate into a number of small part under the effect of irregularities formed in it. The design keeps the missile body out of contact with the barrel during firing.
