Abstract

Olefinically unsatd. organic cpds. are reacted with H2 and/or CO, at 20-300 degrees C and 1-100 bar, in presence of a catalyst consisting of (a) a solid porous carrier carrying in the pores (b) a catalytically active metal complex in soln. in (c) is not 1 ligand-forming cpd. with vapour pressure under the reaction conditions of 15 mbar. Complexes of Ru, Co, Rh or Ir, dissolved in an organo P ligand, are pref. The carrier is esp. macroporous, with pores 100 angstroms and pores >100 angstroms (>1000 angstroms). The organic cpd. is esp. an olefin or unsatd. aldehyde or corresp. acetal. The catalysts have good activity, selectivity and stability. Reaction may be at a temp. below the m. pt. of the soln. of (b) in (c) i.e. on a supported solid phase catalyst. The sensitivity of the catalyst to O2 is low.
