Abstract
Metal surfaces are protected by appln. of a primer layer and a top coating, followed by hardening 1 or both layers by heating, where the primer layer is a mixt of 22-29 (26.2) pts. wt. pigment and/or filler, 27-30 (28.5) pts. phosphoric acid epoxy ester resin, 0.7-1.3 (1) pts. melamine resin, 40-50 (42-47) pts. solvent, and opt. accelerators and other additives, and the topcoating is a mixt. of 24-28 (26) pts. acrylamide resin, 1.5-2.1 (1.8) pts. epoxy resin, 40-50 (41-47) pts. solvent, and opt. accelerators and other additives. The metal is protected for several years. The coating is free from pores, chemically resistant, and sealed against water vapour. Reactive organic pigments can be used, and coatings which are fast to light can be obtd. Renewal of the coating after damage or eventual ageing is easy. The coated metal articles are claimed. The coatings are esp. used on Al or Al alloys.
