Abstract

The fence gate comprises planks fixed to uprights, and the planks are bevelled (8) at the ends so that they overlap. They are secured to each upright by one or more stirrups (4). There can be two such stirrups on each upright (1), one above and one below the planks (2, 3), and with protrusions pressing into the planks. The bevelled face of each can be formed by two faces (6, 7) running at right angles to the lengthwise axis of the plank, joined together by a face (8) inclined to this axis. The design allows rapid direction by unskilled personnel, in addition to which it is easier to replace broken planks than if they have been nailed into position in the first place.
