Abstract

The manhole has a cover adjustable for height and a cover-supporting ring, and there are stepped portions on ring and base section to determine different cover levels by means of different relative angular positions between the two. The tread portions of the steps diverge from the horizontal plane, there being complementary convex and concave faces on the ring and the base section. The convex faces can be on the base, and the concave ones on the ring. The lower ring can support a separate thin high ring, e.g. of plastic, running round the cover-supporting ring, and extending upwards above the top step. There can be four steps in all, the convex and concave faces extending only in the peripheral direction.
