Abstract
1396250 Purifying water by gas-stimulated flotation IMPROVED MACHINERY Inc 22 Nov 1973 [13 Dec 1972] 54164/73 Heading C1C Apparatus suitable for clarifying influent waters such as sewage and other slurries utilizing gas-stimulated flotation of the solid material in the influent water comprises a vessel with a vertical clarifying chamber (10); influent water supply means (52) for upwardly supplying water substantially above the lower end; gas supply means (54), arcuately spaced, which produces gaseous bubbles immediately adjacent to their discharge substantially below the influent water supply; solid discharge means (22) adjacent to the upper end of the clarifying chamber; liquid discharge means (28); the position of the clarifying chamber between the gas inlet and liquid inlet (56) being free of transversely extending separating media to permit the gaseous bubbles to rise readily and cause upward movement of solid material contained in the influent water while liquid influent is discharged downwardly. The apparatus and methods may also be employed for clarifying a mineral/liquid, fibre/ liquid, or other slurry where solids recovery is of paramount interest. Gases other than air may be used for effecting the flotation separation.
