Abstract

Analysis and/or detection of non-volatile materials present in a liquid is effected by (a) placing a quantity of the liquid contg. the material on a solid support, (b) evaporating the liquid by heating, and (c) investigating the residue remaining on the support. The investigation is effected by (1) contacting the residue with a material consisting of at lease one component, so that the residue incorporates one or more components, (2) releasing one or more of the incorporated components, (3) detecting the released components, and (4) recovering or re-investigating the residue. The residue remains unchanged on the support after the treatment, and can be recovered or reinvestigated. Different detectors can be used.
