Selective hydrocracking of paraffins in a light paraffin fraction contg. >85 (90) vol.% pentanes and hexanes, =5 (2) vol.% aromatics, pref. 2-10 ppm sulphur; x vol.% hexanes (x being >=25 (40)), and having an iso/ normal ratio y (>=2 (4)); such that 65y is >= to 2 x + 80.
