Abstract

Gas fired cupola furnace comprises a shaft for the melting of the metal fitted with burners with a collecting hearth from which the melt is passed through a packing in a separate chamber away from the shaft on its way to a fore hearth. The shaft is subdivided into a melting and an overheating chamber below it. The packing consists of lumps of graphite. The arrangement takes the graphite away from the burner gas stream which rises in the shaft.
