Abstract

Porous iron pellets are protected against re-oxidation by applying a coating of a synthetic resin, plastic film, lacquer, or resin such as rosin. The surface of the pellets is smoothened before the application of the coating, pref. by hot or cold rolling. A smoothening agent, such as clay, cement, gypsum or lime, may be applied to the pellets before coating. The pellets may also be treated with a protective liquid, such as heavy oil, suspended fine carbon, or suspended fine minerals, before coating.
