Abstract
Isophorons is purified by subjecting a stream containing isophorone, beta-isophorone, phorone, beta-phorone, lower boiling impurities and higher boiling impurities to distillation in a first distillation column and separating the higher boiling impurities as distillation sump and recovering from the head of the column a product consisting of isophorone, beta-isophorone, phorone, beta-phorone and lower boiling impurities which is distilled in a 2nd column, essentially pure isophorone being withdrawn at a point in the 2nd column below the product imput point.
