METHOD FOR CLEANING A TOP FABRIC AND CULTIVATION FLOOR CLEANING
DEVICE
The invention is related to a method for cleaning a water-permeable top fabric which forms a top side of a cultivation floor on which plants or plant containers are placeable. The invention is further related to a cultivation floor cleaning device for cleaning the water-permeable top fabric.
EP2955996 discloses a cultivation floor system with a water-permeable top fabric on which plant containers are placed, which cultivation floor system comprises a water tight basin, the water permeable structure in the basin and a watering installation. The water permeable structure comprises a top cloth which forms the top side of the floor and one or more water- retaining layers, for example of a granular material.
Cultivation floors are used to grow plants, e.g. plants in plant containers placed on the cultivation floor. In order to allow uniform growth of several plants located at different locations of the cultivation floor it is important that the growth conditions of these plants are similar. Growth conditions of the plants grown on the cultivation floor may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as temperature, lighting conditions, humidity and access to water. The desired growth conditions may not only be suitable for the plants to be grown but also for other, undesired, plants, such as algae. In particular, on the top side of the cultivation floor a humid and warm climate is often present which is ideal for the growth of algae. The presence of these algae locally influence the growth conditions, thus negatively impacting growth of plants growth near the algae.
The cultivation floor system of EP2955996 comprises a perforated film provided between the top cloth and the water permeable structure which reduces growth of algae on the cultivation floor by negatively impacting growth conditions of the algae. However, even in this known cultivation floor, algae may grow and the growth conditions of plants may vary over the cultivation floor due to the presence of these algae.
It is an object of the invention is to allow for more uniform growth conditions over a cultivation floor which comprises: e a water tight basin comprising a bottom and a perimeter;
e a water-permeable structure comprising at least one layer of a granular material provided in the water tight basin; e a water-permeable top fabric which forms a top side of the cultivation floor on which plant containers are placeable provided above the granular material, and e a watering installation, which is configured to supply water so that water is available for the plants in the plant containers and which comprises one or more irrigation lines embedded in the water-permeable structure.
This is achieved by the method according to claim 1, wherein use is made of a cultivation floor cleaning device comprising: - aframe with a chassis, which is provided on the frame, for moving the cleaning device along a cleaning direction over the cultivation floor, - a fluid releaser for releasing a fluid to the cultivation floor, which is provided on a front end, relative to the cleaning direction, of the cleaning device, e.g. on a front end of the chassis; - a heating device for heating the fluid to be released by the fluid releaser, - a sweeper for sweeping the cultivation floor and loosening algae thereon; and - a fluid extractor for extracting the fluid and loosened algae from the cultivation floor, which is provided on a back end, relative to the cleaning direction, of the cleaning device, opposite the fluid releaser, wherein the sweeper is provided on the cleaning device between the fluid releaser and the fluid extractor, the method comprising: - heating the fluid to a temperature between 20 degrees Celsius and 140 degrees Celsius with the heating device; - releasing fluid from the fluid releaser to the top fabric of the cultivation floor; - sweeping the top fabric of the cultivation floor with the sweeper, loosening algae in the top fabric; - extracting fluid and loosened algae from the top fabric using the fluid extractor.
The method of claim 1 allows for more uniform growth conditions over the cultivation floor by loosening and removing algae from the top fabric of the cultivation floor. The method of claim 1 thus leads to a reduction of algae on the cultivation floor and more uniform growth conditions. In particular, the method may be performed when the plants, e.g. in their plant containers, are removed from the cultivation floor, for example between batches.
The method makes use of a cultivation floor cleaning device which comprises a frame with a chassis, which is provided on the frame. The chassis allows to move the cleaning device along a cleaning direction over the cultivation floor. For example, the chassis may comprise, inflatable, wheels for moving the cleaning device over the cultivation floor. In embodiments, the wheels are driven by an engine. In another example, the chassis may comprise slides for moving the cleaning device over tracks. In another example, the chassis may be suspended above the top fabric and moved over the top fabric via a system of suspenders.
A fluid releaser is provided on a front end, relative to the cleaning direction, of the cleaning device. For example the fluid releaser is provided on a front end of the chassis. The fluid releaser is configured to release a fluid, e.g., hot, water or another suitable cleaning fluid, to the cultivation floor, e.g. to the top fabric of the cultivation floor. The fluid may comprise various additives, for example, for increasing the effectiveness of cleaning the top fabric. The fluid releaser may be embodied as a patio cleaner.
The cleaning device further comprises a heating device for heating the fluid to be released by the fluid releaser. The heating device may be a heating element provided near the fluid releaser, e.g. on a fluid path towards the fluid releaser, or it may be steamer for providing the fluid at a desired temperature and pressure.
In embodiments the fluid is stored in a fluid storage which may be provided on the frame or separately, e.g. adjacent to the cultivation floor. In embodiments, wherein the fluid storage is provided adjacent to the cultivation floor, the fluid storage is connected to the cleaning device by a fluid channel for transporting the fluid from the fluid storage to the fluid releaser. In these embodiments, the heating device may be provided to heat the fluid as it is transported through the fluid channel. Fluid stored in the fluid storage may further be preheated, e.g. the fluid in the fluid storage may be kept at an elevated temperature, e.g. above 30 °C, for example at or above 50°C. In embodiments, the heater is connected to a tap such that a liquid is obtained from the tap.
A fluid extractor is provided on a back end, relative to the cleaning direction, of the cleaning device, opposite the fluid releaser. The fluid extractor is configured to extract fluid and loosened algae from the cultivation floor, e.g. by using a brushing, sweeping and/or sucking mechanism. The extracted fluid and algae may be stored in a container on the cleaning device or they may be transported from the cleaning device, e.g. through an extraction channel. The extracted fluid and algae may also comprise further contaminants, such as grains of sand or dirt, removed from the top fabric of the cultivation floor.
The cleaning device further comprises a sweeper, which is provided between the fluid releaser and fluid extractor. The sweeper is configured to sweep the algae which are moist and heated by the fluid to loosen the algae on the top fabric so that the algae may be removed by the extractor. The sweeper may loosen the algae such that loosened algae are deposited on the top side of the top fabric, e.g. by using a rolling sweeper. This may allow the fluid extractor to more easily extract the algae.
The method comprises: - heating the fluid to a temperature between 20 degrees Celsius and 140 degrees Celsius, for example to a temperature between 60 degrees Celsius and 140 degrees Celsius, with the heating device; - releasing the heated fluid from the fluid releaser to the top fabric of the cultivation floor; - sweeping the top fabric of the cultivation floor with the sweeper, loosening algae in the top fabric; - extracting fluid and loosened algae from the top fabric using the fluid extractor.
The method allows to improving growth conditions on the cultivation floor by removing algae and other contaminants, by first heating and making the algae and contaminants wet with the heated fluid which loosens the grip of the algae and contaminants on the cultivation floor, e.g. in particular by killing the algae. The heated algae are then further loosened with the sweeper and removed by using the extractor.
In embodiments, the fluid releaser comprises a housing having an outer wall and an upper wall, for example having a diameter between 50cm and 100cm, for example 75 cm, and wherein the fluid releaser further comprises a rotatable nozzle in the housing for releasing the fluid to the cultivation floor, wherein the step of releasing fluid from the fluid releaser comprises: - rotating the rotatable nozzle; and - releasing fluid from the rotating nozzle to the top fabric of the cultivation floor.
The rotatable nozzle may be rotatable in a plane parallel to the top fabric when the cleaning device is being moved over the top fabric. The housing may prevent fluid from spraying away from the top fabric, e.g. as a result of the rotation of the nozzle. The housing may further help create a steam chamber between the top fabric and the housing when fluid is released from the rotating nozzle such that steam is present between the housing and the top fabric, creating more optimal conditions for loosening the algae. The housing may have a size between 80cm and 100cm, e.g. 75cm. The housing may be circular. By rotating the nozzle, the fluid is evenly distributed over the top fabric which may reduce the possibility of roughening the top fabric due to the fluid hitting the top fabric. An increased roughness of the top fabric may lead to conditions that are more suitable for algae, so it is preferably to avoid roughening the top fabric. 5 In embodiments, the method is performed while continuously moving the cultivation floor cleaning device over the cultivation floor in the cleaning direction. In these embodiments, the fluid releaser, sweeper and extractor may be operated such that the algae are removed to a sufficient level at each patch of the top fabric while the cleaning device is moving at a moving speed in the cleaning direction. For example, the cleaning device may be moved at a walking pace over the top fabric, and the fluid releaser, sweeper and extractor may be configured to remove algae in each patch of the top fabric over which the cleaning device passes to a desired degree.
In embodiments, the chassis is removably connected to the frame, wherein the fluid releaser is provided on the chassis and the fluid extractor and the sweeper are provided on the frame, and wherein the method comprises: - connecting the chassis to the frame of the cleaning device before releasing fluid from the fluid releaser; and/or - removing the chassis from the frame of the cleaning device after extracting fluid and loosened algae with the extractor.
In this embodiment the frame, the fluid extractor, and the sweeper may be embodied as a general purpose floor cleaning device. For example, the general purpose floor cleaning device may be suitable for cleaning a floor, e.g. of an office space. In this embodiment, the chassis may comprise, e.g. driven, wheels and the chassis may be such that wheels of the general purpose floor cleaning device may not contact the top fabric of the cultivation floor when the chassis is connected to the general purpose floor cleaning device. This is advantageous because the wheels of the chassis may be more suitable for use in a cultivation floor, e.g. they may have a larger contact area compared to other wheels such that the wheels do not cause dents in the top fabric.
In embodiments, the sweeper is movably provided on the cleaning device between an inactive position and an active position, wherein, in the active position, the sweeper is configured to sweep the cultivation floor and, in the inactive position, the sweeper is provided a distance above the cultivation floor, wherein the method comprises: - before sweeping the cultivation floor, moving the sweeper in the active position; and/or - after sweeping the cultivation floor, moving the sweeper to the inactive position.
In this embodiment, the cleaning device may be moved to and from the cultivation floor with the sweeper in the inactive position, such that the sweeper does not contact a floor on which the cleaning device is transported.
In embodiments, the sweeper comprises a rotatable sweeper element for sweeping the cultivation floor which is configured to be driven rotationally about an axis of rotation that extends parallel to the cultivation floor, and wherein the method comprises: - rotating the sweeper element while sweeping the top fabric of the cultivation floor with the sweeper, loosening algae in the top fabric.
In embodiments, the chassis comprises wheels for moving the cleaning device, wherein the wheels have a diameter between 15 and 35cm and a width between 5 and 15 cm, wherein a pressure in the wheels lies between 0.5 and 1.5 bar. The large, inflatable wheels with the relatively low pressure are less likely to damage the top fabric of the cultivation floor as the pressure per surface area is less.
In embodiments, the cleaning device further comprises a fluid storage connected to the heater and the fluid releaser for providing fluid to be heated and released to the top fabric, for example, wherein the fluid storage is provided separate from the frame and chassis, e.g. wherein the fluid storage is provided adjacent to the watertight basin.
The invention is further related to a cultivation floor cleaning device for cleaning a water- permeable top fabric which forms a top side of a cultivation floor on which plant containers are placeable, wherein the cultivation floor comprises: e a watertight basin comprising a bottom and a perimeter; e a water-permeable structure comprising at least one layer of a granular material provided in the water tight basin; and e a watering installation, which is configured to supply water so that water is available for the plants in the plant containers and which comprises one or more irrigation lines embedded in the water-permeable structure, wherein the water-permeable top fabric is provided above the granular material, wherein the cleaning device comprises: - aframe with a chassis, which is provided on the frame, for moving the cleaning device along a cleaning direction over the cultivation floor;
- a fluid releaser for releasing a fluid to the top fabric, which is provided on a front end, relative to the cleaning direction, of the cleaning device, e.g. on a front end of the chassis; - a heating device for heating the fluid to be released by the fluid releaser; - a sweeper for sweeping the top fabric and loosening algae thereon; and - a fluid extractor for extracting the fluid and loosened algae from the top fabric, which is provided on a back end, relative to the cleaning direction, of the cleaning device, opposite the fluid releaser, wherein the sweeper is provided on the cleaning device between the fluid releaser and the fluid extractor, wherein the cleaning device is configured to; - heat the fluid to a temperature between 20 degrees Celsius and 140 degrees Celsius with the heating device; - release the heated fluid from the fluid releaser to the top fabric of the cultivation floor; - sweep the top fabric of the cultivation floor with the sweeper, loosening algae in the top fabric; - extract fluid and loosened algae from the top fabric using the fluid extractor.
The cultivation floor cleaning device allows for more uniform growth conditions over the cultivation floor by loosening and removing algae and other contaminants from the top fabric of the cultivation floor. Use of the cultivation floor cleaning deviceleads to a reduction of algae on the cultivation floor and more uniform growth conditions. In particular, the method may be performed when the plants, e.g. in their plant containers, are removed from the cultivation floor, for example between batches.
In embodiments of the cleaning device, the fluid releaser comprises a housing having an outer wall and an upper wall and wherein the fluid releaser further comprises a rotatable nozzle in the housing for releasing the fluid to the cultivation floor, wherein fluid releaser is configured to: - rotate the rotatable nozzle; and - release fluid from the rotating nozzle to the top fabric of the cultivation floor.
In embodiments of the cleaning device, the cleaning device is configured to clean the top fabric while continuously moving the cultivation floor cleaning device over the cultivation floor in the cleaning direction.
In embodiments of the cleaning device, the chassis is removably connected to the frame, wherein the fluid releaser is provided on the chassis and the fluid extractor and the sweeper are provided on the frame, and wherein the cleaning device is configured to: - connect the chassis to the frame of the cleaning device before releasing fluid from the fluid releaser; and/or - remove the chassis from the frame of the cleaning device after extracting fluid and loosened algae with the extractor.
In embodiments of the cleaning device, the sweeper is movably provided on the cleaning device between an inactive position and an active position, wherein, in the active position, the sweeper is configured to sweep the cultivation floor and, in the inactive position, the sweeper is provided a distance above the cultivation floor, wherein the cleaning device is configured to: - before sweeping the cultivation floor, move the sweeper in the active position; and/or - after sweeping the cultivation floor, move the sweeper to the inactive position.
In embodiments of the cleaning device, the sweeper comprises a rotatable sweeper element for sweeping the cultivation floor which is configured to be driven rotationally about an axis of rotation that extends parallel to the cultivation floor, and wherein the cleaning device is configured to: - rotate the sweeper element while sweeping the top fabric of the cultivation floor with the sweeper, loosening algae in the top fabric.
In embodiments of the cleaning device, the chassis comprises wheels for moving the cleaning device, wherein the wheels have a diameter between 15 and 35cm and a width between 5 and 15 cm, and wherein a pressure in the wheels lies between 0.5 and 1.5 bar.
In embodiments of the cleaning device, the cleaning device further comprises a fluid storage connected to the heater and the fluid releaser for providing fluid to be heated and released to the top fabric, for example, wherein the fluid storage is provided separate from the frame and chassis, e.g. wherein the fluid storage is provided adjacent to the watertight basin.
The invention will be explained below with reference to the drawing, in which:
- Fig. 1 schematically shows a cleaning device on a cultivation floor.
Figure 1 schematically shows a cleaning device 5 on a water-permeable top fabric 1 which forms the top side of a cultivation floor on which plant containers are placeable.
The cultivation floor comprises a watertight basin 2 comprising a bottom and a perimeter. The basin 2 is depicted partially. The perimeter of the basin 2 shown in the figure extends to above the water-permeable top fabric 1 such that, when the basin 2 is filled with water, e.g. to water the plants in the plant containers, the water-permeable top fabric 1 may be below water level
The cultivation floor further comprises a water-permeable structure 3 comprising at least one layer of a granular material provided in the basin 2. In the figure the water-permeable structure 3 is shown as a few granules 3, in more realistic depictions the granules 3 may tightly fill the basin 2 up to the top fabric 1. The water-permeable structure 3 allows water to pass through, such that when the basin 2 filled with water the water level may rise and fall through the water-permeable structure 3.
The watering installation 4 is configured to supply water to the cultivation floor so that the water is available for the plants in the plant containers. For example, the watering installation 4 may be an ebb/flood watering installation 4 which allows to control an ebb and flood of a water level in the basin 2. The watering installation 4 comprises one or more irrigation lines, not shown, which are embedded in the water-permeable structure 3. The water-permeable top fabric 1 is provided above the granular material 3.
The method makes use of a cultivation floor cleaning device 5 which is shown on top of the top fabric 1. The cleaning device 5 comprises a frame 6 with a chassis 7, which is provided on the frame 6 and supports wheels for moving the cleaning device 5 along a cleaning direction over the cultivation floor. The chassis 7 is removably connected to the frame 8 such that the chassis 7, fluid releaser 8 and the wheels may be removed from the frame 6. In embodiments, this may allow the chassis 7 to support a general purpose cleaning device which comprises the frame 6, a sweeper 10 and a fluid extractor 11.
The fluid releaser 8 is provided on a front end of the chassis 7 relative to the cleaning direction of the cleaning device 5. The fluid releaser 8 comprises a housing having an outer wall and an upper wall and wherein the fluid releaser 8 further comprises a rotatable nozzle in the housing for releasing the fluid to the cultivation floor. The fluid releaser 8 allows to release a heated fluid to the top fabric 1. The fluid is stored in the fluid storage 12, which in this embodiment is provided adjacent to the cultivation floor. Once needed, the fluid is allowed to flow from the fluid storage 12 to the heating device 9 which heats the fluid before the fluid is released by the fluid releaser 8. The heating device 9 is configured to heat the fluid to a temperature between 20 degrees Celsius and 140 degrees Celsius, for example between 80 degrees Celsius and 120 degrees Celsius.
The cleaning device 5 further comprises a sweeper 10 for sweeping the top fabric 1 and loosening algae thereon. The algae are more easily loosened because they have been treated by the heated fluid by the fluid releaser 8. The sweeper 10 is provided on the cleaning device 5 between the fluid releaser 8 and the fluid extractor 11. In the shown embodied the sweeper 10 is supported by the frame 6 so that, when the chassis 7 is removed from the frame 6, the sweeper 10 remains with the frame 6. The sweeper 10 comprises a rotatable sweeper element for sweeping the top fabric 1 which is configured to be driven rotationally about an axis of rotation that extends parallel to the top fabric 1.
The fluid extractor 11 is configured for extracting the fluid and loosened algae from the top fabric 1. The fluid extractor 11 is provided on a back end, relative to the cleaning direction, of the cleaning device 5 and is supported by the frame 6. The fluid extractor 11 is provided opposite the fluid releaser 8. For example, in embodiments the fluid extractor 11 may make use of a brushing, sweeping and/or sucking mechanism for extracting the fluid and loosened algae from the top fabric.
The cleaning device 5 may be used in the method of the invention by - heating the fluid to a temperature between 20 degrees Celsius and 140 degrees Celsius with the heating device 9; - releasing the heated fluid from the fluid releaser 8 to the top fabric 1 of the cultivation floor; - sweeping the top fabric 1 of the cultivation floor with the sweeper 10, loosening algae in the top fabric 1; - extracting fluid and loosened algae from the top fabric 1 using the fluid extractor 11.
