Abstract
A sand control filter assembly and method for its manufacture. Multiple filter layers (34a, 34b, 34c) of a woven wire mesh (35) are wrapped directly onto the outer circumference of a perforated base pipe (30). A perforated shroud (36) is slid over the outermost filter layer, and the assembly is run through a die (70) to swage the shroud tightly over the multiple filter layers (34a, 34b, 34c), thereby holding the filter layers in place and sealing their ends. In an embodiment, the woven filter mesh may be a volumetric mesh (35) having irregular ridges (44) and valleys (46) to further enhance drainage. The most suitable drawings: Fig. 3.
