A TRACTION MACHINE (6) FOR AN ELEVATOR COMPRISES A HOUSING (16), A ROTATION SHAFT (21) SUPPORTED TO THE HOUSING (16) BY BEARINGS (22, 23) FILLED WITH A LUBRICANT, A SHEAVE (26) WRAPPED WITH ROPES (8) FOR HANGING A CAR (4), AND A DISC BRAKE APPARATUS (31) CONFIGURED TO APPLY A BRAKING FORCE TO THE ROTATION SHAFT (21) AT A POSITION ADJACENT TO THE BEARINGS (22, 23). THE SHEAVE (26) IS SECURED TO THE ROTATION SHAFT (21) AND CONFIGURED TO ROTATE TOGETHER WITH THE ROTATION SHAFT (21). THE DISC BRAKE APPARATUS (31) COMPRISES A PLURALITY OF DISC ROTORS (32, 33) AND A PLURALITY OF BRAKE PADS (36A, 36B, 37A, 37B). THE DISC ROTORS (32, 33) ARE CONFIGURED TO ROTATE TOGETHER WITH THE ROTATION SHAFT (21). THE BRAKE PADS (36A, 36B, 37A, 37B) ARE CONFIGURED TO CLAMP THE DISC ROTORS (32, 33) AT LEAST ONE PART.
