[OBJECT] TO SIMPLIFY THE STRUCTURE OF A SWITCH OF A GEAR POSITION DETECTING APPARATUS, THEREBY MINIATURIZING THE APPARATUS AND INCREASING ACCURACY OF THE APPARATUS.[SOLVING MEANS] A CONTACT PLATE 39 IS DIRECTLY MOUNTED ON AN END SURFACE OF A SHIFT DRUM 1 SUPPORTED BY CRANK CASES 20 AND 21. A SWITCH BLOCK 43 IS INSERTED IN THE CRANK CASE 20 BY SPIGOT JOINT. THE SWITCH BLOCK 43 HAS, AT A PLANE OPPOSED TO THE CONTACT PLATE 39, A PLURALITY OF FIXED CONTACTS CORRESPONDING TO THE GEAR POSITIONS. SINCE AN INTERMEDIATE MEMBER REQUIRING A LARGE ARRANGEMENT SPACE IS NOT INTERPOSED BETWEEN THE SHIFT DRUM 1 AND THE CONTACT PLATE 39, THE AXIAL DIMENSION OF THE SHIFT DRUM 1 IS SHORTENED. FURTHER, SINCE THE ROTATIONAL POSITION OF THE SHIFT DRUM 1 DIRECTLY CORRESPONDS TO THE POSITION OF THE CONTACT PLATE 39, IT IS POSSIBLE TO ACCURATELY DETECT THE GEAR POSITION.[SELECTED DRAWING](FIG. 1)
