Abstract
IN AN EXHAUST GAS PURIFYING APPARATUS FOR PURIFYING AN EXHAUST GAS FROM AN ENGINE OF A VEHICLE, A CATALYST MEANS IS PROVIDED IN A MUFFLER CONNECTED TO AN EXHAUST PIPE EXTENDING FORM AN ENGINE EXHAUST PORT AND THE CATALYST MEANS IS SUPPORTED ON AT LEAST TWO POINTS INCLUDING AT LEAST ONE POINT IN A FLOATING SUPPORT MANNER THROUGH A HEAT INSULATING MATERIAL. THE FLOATING SUPPORT POINT IS POSITIONED ON THE ENGINE EXHAUST PORT SIDE OF THE MUFFLER. THE CATALAYST MEANS IS COMPOSED OF A PIPE PROVIDED WITH A NUMBER OF POURS ON WHICH A CATALYST IS COATED AND THE CATALYST MEANS EXTENDS SUBSTANTIALLY IN AN AXIAL LENGTH OF THE MUFFLER AND IS SUPPORTED BY AT LEAST TWO POINTS EACH WITH PREDETERMINED DISTANCE FROM AN INNER PERIPHERAL SURFACE OF THE MUFFLER BY MEANS OF STAYS FIXED TO THE MUFFLER. THE CATALYST MEANS IS SUPPORTED IN A FLOATING SUPPORT MANNER AT A PORTION ON AN ENGINE EXHAUST PORT SIDE BY ONE OF THE STAYS THROUGH A REINFORCING MEMBER WHICH IS DISPOSED BETWEEN THE HEAT INSULATING MATERIAL AND THE STAY.
