Abstract
FOR COMPATIBILITY REASONS THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION NEEDED IN LETTERBOX COLOUR TV SYSTEMS IS TRANSMITTED WITH MARKEDLY REDUCED AMPLITUDE, WHEREBY LOW FREQUENCIES HAVE A RELATIVE HIGH AMPLITUDE. THEREFORE THE SIGNAL-TO-NOISE RATIO IS REDUCED AND IN PRESENT TV RECEIVERS SYNCHRONISING ERRORS OCCUR. BY TRANSMITTING THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IN THE FORM OF A VESTIGAL SIDEBAND MODULATION OF THE COLOUR CARRIER THE AMPLITUDE OF THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CAN BECOME ENLARGED WITHOUT THE ARISING OF SYNCHRONISING ERRORS IN PRESENT TV RECEIVERS. THE NYQUIST-SLOPE AT THE COLOUR CARRIER IS ADVANTAGEOUSLY GENERATED BY USING PRESENT IF FILTERS. IF THE PHASE COINCIDES WITH THE V PHASE OF THE COLOUR CARRIER POSSIBLE DISTURBANCES OF THE COMPATIBLE RECEPTION HAVE AN ADVANTAGEOUSLY LOW LEVEL. (FIG. 3)
