Abstract

RADIO FREQUENCY BASED CELLULAR TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEMS (FIG. 1 ) OFTEN REQUIRE A SUBSCRIBER (10) TO MAINTAIN A PROPRIETARY IDENTIFIER OR SERIAL NUMBER (18) WHICH IS TRANSMITTED TO A FIXED NETWORK COMMUNICATION UNIT TO VERIFY THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE SUBSCRIBER. UNAUTHORIZED DETECTION OF THESE PROPRIETARY ID'S IS SUBSTANTIALLY DECREASED BY THIS INVENTION. THIS INVENTION DESCRIBES AN ENCIPHERING METHOD AND CALL SEQUENCING METHOD, WHICH WHEN COMBINED, PROVIDES SUBSTANTIAL PROTECTION FOR THE SUBSCRIBER (10) AGAINST UNAUTHORIZED DETECTION OF THEIR PROPRIETARY IDENTIFIERS (18, 19).( FIG. 1 )
