Abstract

THE INVENTION RELATES TO NON-SOAP LAUNDRY BARS SUITABLE FOR HAND WASHING OF FABRICS. CONVENTIONALLY SUCH BARS ARE CONSTITUTED BY A DISPERSION OF SOLID PARTICLES DISPERSED IN A CONTINUOUS PHASE WHICH CONSISTS PRINCIPALLY OF DETERGENT ACTIVE AND WATER. THE BARS OF THIS INVENTION HAVE A CONTINUOUS PHASE FORMED PRINCIPALLY BY ALKALI METAL SILICATE AND WATER WITH OTHER MATERIALS EITHER DISPERSED OR DISSOLVED IN IT. THIS STRUCTURE PROVIDES BARS HAVING HARDNESS, WEAR-RATE AND MUSHING CHARACTERISTICS WHICH ARE VERY SATISFACTORY.
