A LENS ACTUATOR (3) FOR OPTICAL HEAD COMPRISES A LENS SUPPORTING STRUCTURE (30) HAVING A LENS HOLDER (30A) OF HOLLOW CYLINDRICAL SHAPE ON ONE END OF WHICH A LENS (31) IS MOUNTED AND A PAIR OF FINS (32) SECURED TO THE LENS HOLDER (30A) ON OPPOSITE SIDES THEREOF A FLAT FOCUS CONTROL COIL (33) AND A FLAT TRACKING CONTROL COIL (34) FIXED TO EACH OF THE FINS (32); AND MAGNETIC FLUX GENERATING MEMBERS (36) SO DISPOSED THAT THE MAGNETIC FLUX GENERATED THEREBY CROSSES THE FOCUS AND TRACKING ADJUSTMENT COILS (33, 34). THE TWO FINS (32) LIE IN A SINGLE PLANE PASSING THROUGH THE AXIAL CENTERLINE OF THE LENS HOLDER (30A).(FIG 1)
