Abstract
The invention relates to a reproduction device having a scanning device for a recording medium containing blocks of information, which has a means for accessing the recording medium at a defined playback or reading time, if the Recording does not have a match list, there is a relationship between the playing time and the recording position, or if the match list has been corrupted. In order to have access or to reproduce a reproduction medium in a defined reproduction or reading time, the recording medium is, for example, a digital versatile disc (which is also called a DVD) which does not have what it is called a DVD video title adjustment time map table, a playback device is provided which drives the scanning device (using a binary search) to a point in the recording medium which corresponds to the defined access for the time of reproduction. The field of application of the invention extends to playback devices for recording media containing blocks of information, such as digital video discs (which are also referred to as a DV).
Description
REPRODUCTION DEVICE FOR RECORDING MEDIA CONTAINING INFORMATION BLOCKS
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a reproduction device for a recording medium containing blocks of information, which has a means for access, has a defined playing time, to video information on a digital versatile disc, which is also called DVD , without what is called the DVD video title adjustment time map table. According to the DVD specification, for Xejctura only discs, part 3, in version 1.0, which contains the video specification, is provided what is called a DVD video title adjustment time map table. the DVD disc, by means of which it can be accessed as a function of the playing time, in order to reproduce a video sequence of a movie from a desired playback start time. This table contains all the necessary information and entry points to allow the reproduction device to be used to directly access a video sequence which corresponds to a specific playing time or duration of operation or, for example, to start playing a movie which must be recorded on a DVD from a time which corresponds to a predetermined playing time in the movie. If, for example, the first 10 minutes of a movie are skipped, then the video title adjustment time map table can be used to jump directly to the point in a movie which corresponds to this playing time, when it is observed continually. Using the data obtained in the time map table of video title adjustment on the disk, the scanning device on the playback device ^ is directly driven to a scanning point on the disk which contains the data corresponding to a predetermined playing time. The video title adjustment time map table contains the recording point for the video data in each program chain in the video title for each time during playback. However, it is only optionally for this table to provide it on the disk, so that it is generally not available on the playback devices to find a recording point on the disk corresponding to a playback time which may be predetermined. The object of the invention is to provide a reproduction device for a recording medium containing blocks of information, which allows access, in a defined playing time, to video information on a DVD even without the disc having been registered in. the time map table of DVD video title adjustment. This object is obtained by means of independent claims, and refinements and advantageous developments are specified in the dependent claims. One aspect of the invention is to allow access, in a defined playing time, to video information on a DVD, even though a DVD video title setting time map table is not found or which has been damaged. the time map table of DVD video title adjustment. According to the invention, a means is provided in the reproduction device, whose use in the reproduction medium is the search for a characteristic feature. It has been found that the recording medium having information blocks has what are called designators which are used, in an advantageous way, to find what are referred to as navigation sectors on the disk. The sectors of the recording medium are analyzed using a means provided in the reproduction device as a means whose use allows the data stream of the recording medium to be read and analyzed to find a navigation sector designator. If such a designator is found, the establishment near the reproduction Hme present content in the information of the navigation sector is evaluated and compared with a predetermined playing time for which it is designed to reproduce information stored in the recording medium. As a result of the comparison, a determination is made regarding a point corresponding to the desired reproduction duration which is located on the recording medium before or after the point at which the navigation sector designator and the playback time contained in the navigation sector information are found. Then the recording medium is scanned at a point corresponding to the determined direction, and the process is repeated until the desired start position is found or until a predetermined start sector for playback is found. Therefore, by using a reproduction device for a recording medium containing blocks of information, this allows access, in a defined playing time, to video information on a DVD in an advantageous manner, and likewise way, it uses a binary search, when the DVD does not have the DVD video title adjustment time map table or when the DVD video title adjustment time map table can not be evaluated. In this case, the binary term search covers the comparison of information read from the recording medium which coincides with a binary word that - characterizes the designator, and the evaluation of the binary information which is contained in one of the files. which are identified by the designator. The invention will be explained in greater detail in the following text with reference to a drawing. The figure shows an exemplary embodiment for access, at a defined playing time, to video information on a DVD even without the DVD video title setting time map table being recorded on the disc. Since a time code corresponding to the CD audio is not available, due to the breaking and intercalation of the information stored in the information blocks, for access, in a defined playing time, to video information, it is initially must establish the assumption that it is impossible to reproduce, at a defined playing time, a recording medium that has blocks of information when there is no DVD video title setting time map table or when the table is damaged of time map of DVD video title adjustment. Corresponding to the invention, the reproduction device contains a search means for finding a designator, which in this case is a navigation sector designator that is also referred to as an NV_PCK ID. The search means preferably is a mask which corresponds to the binary word of the navigation sector designator and is used to find the navigation sector designator in the data stream that is read from the recording medium. The method for finding the designator of the navigation sector using a mask corresponding to the binary word of the navigation sector designator can be an iterative approach method, as illustrated in the figure, or in addition to another search method, for example. example, a continuous search in the forward or reverse direction, or a search that starts from an estimated value. In order to reproduce, in a defined reproduction time, a recording medium having information blocks, using the iterative approach method, first of all the recording medium is scanned, in a first stage SI, in a position the which corresponds approximately to the center of the recording medium. This physical point in the recording medium, however, as a rule does not correspond to half the duration of the reproduction of an article of video information (called a VO video object) on the disc, since the duration of reproduction and the physical point on the disk are not proportional due to the data and the structure of the record. In addition, the amount of data required to reproduce depends on the nature of the VO video object, since, as a rule, the only recorded information is that which relates to changes from one frame to the next frame. Therefore a very wide tolerance for the first one can be allowed with time from which the reproduction is intended to take place in a defined reproduction or reading time, this point is then defined in which the means of reproduction must be explored. recording in a second stage S2 unless you have already found a match. In the example shown in the figure, the objective is reproduction, with a defined playback or reading time, starting from a playback time which is located before the determined position, so that the recording medium is scanned by the scanning device in this second step S2 at a point which is also physically located before the point at which the recording medium was scanned in the first stage SI. This second point can also be an arbitrary point in the region before the point explored in the first stage SI. However, it is also possible to determine the time difference between the reproduction time determined in the first stage SI and the desired reproduction or reading time, and to define a jump distance corresponding to the result. Then a binary search is carried out again at the second point, which results in a determination being made regarding a point that is sought for reproduction at a defined read or play time that is located before or after the present exploration position. If the playback time determined at the point in the recording medium which will be driven by a scanning device in the playback device. From the point in the recording medium to which the scanning device of the playback device jumps, the information recorded therein is then read and compared to a mask which corresponds to the binary word of the designator of the navigation sector. As soon as the navigation sector designator has been detected, the information contained in the navigation sector information, which is also called the navigation package NV_PCK, is then evaluated in relation to the playback time which corresponds to the time of playback from the beginning if Xa video information has been continuously played. The means required to evaluate this type of reproduction, which is also called PGC play time, is also provided in the playback device to continuously play video information, so that there is no need for any further explanation in relation to this. Then there is a relation between the recording point and the playback time by a binary search that is carried out in this way and that is used to approximate in a time in the recording medium which must be found and scanned for reproduction in a defined playing time, even without a DVD video title adjustment time map table. When comparing the determined playing time in the second stage scanning point S2 is not too far from the desired playing time, a third point is scanned in the recording medium, depending on the result of the comparison, in a third stage S3. According to the figure, a reproduction time is determined in step S2 which is located before the desired reproduction or reading time, so that the scanning device of the reproduction device is activated, in a third step S3, until a point in the recording medium which is located after the point in the recording medium scanned in the second stage S2 and before the point in the recording medium scanned in the first stage SI. Using an iterative exploration method, in this way there is a point on the recording medium which corresponds to the desired playback or reading time even without a DVD video title adjustment map table, and the playback process starts at a playback time or reading defined in the fourth stage S4. To further reduce the number of steps that are carried out in order to determine the scan point on the recording medium corresponding to the reproduction at a defined playback or reading time, it is possible to use a tolerance interval which starts the process of reproduction at a distance from the predetermined playing time.
The invention is designed for use in a playback device for a recording medium containing blocks of information, which has a means for access, at a defined playing time, to video information on a digital versatile disc, called a DVD, even without what is called a DVD video title adjustment time map table, and in general it can be used to have access, at a defined playing time, to information on a recording medium where there is no proportionality between the recording point and the playing time and a match list that defines the relationship between the playing time and the recording point is not available.
