하나의 모화면내에 마련된 자화면(PIP;Picture in picture)의 영상데이타를 수직으로 압축하는 장치는 PIP 영상데이타를 수평주사라인별로 입력하여 1수평주사라인 기간씩 상기 입력된 순서대로 소정기간동안 지연시킴으로써 수평주사라인별 연결된 영상데이타 시퀀스를 형성하는 영상데이타 시퀀스 형성부, 상기 영상데이타 시퀀스를 하나의 수평주사라인씩 계수하여 소정의 제어신호를 발생하는 제어신호 발생부 및 상기 제어신호에 대응하여 상기 영상데이타 시퀀스 중에서 하나의 영상데이타를 추출하여 출력하는 영상데이타 출력부를 구비하며, 모화면의 영상이 수직으로 신장되어 PIP 의 영상 또한 수직으로 신장될 때, 상기 PIP를 나타내는 영상데이타 중 일부 수평주사라인들에 해당하는 영상데이타를 누락함으로써 상기 PIP 의 영상이 수직압축되어 전체 PIP 화면을 볼 수 있게 한다. 본 발명은 텔레비전, VTR 등의 각종 영상기기에 적용가능하다.A device for vertically compressing image data of a picture in picture (PIP) provided in one mother screen vertically inputs the PIP image data for each horizontal scan line and delays a predetermined period in the input order by one horizontal scan line period.
