도 2 는 도 1 의 액정 표시 장치에 사용되는 액정 셀의 개략 단면도이다.
도 3 은 VA 모드에 있어서의 액정 분자의 배향 상태를 설명하는 개략 단면도이다.
도 4 는 도 1 의 액정 표시 장치에 있어서의 면광원 장치의 구성을 설명하는 개략 단면도이다.
도 5 는 도 4 의 면광원 장치의 도광판의 출광측 단위 광학 요소 및 이면측 단위 광학 요소의 형상을 설명하는 개략도이다.

Claims (9)
- 관찰자측에 형성되는 제 1 편광판과 배면측에 형성되는 제 2 편광판 사이에 액정 셀을 구비하는 액정 표시 패널과, 상기 액정 표시 패널을 배면측에서 조명하는 면광원 장치를 구비하고,
상기 면광원 장치는, 광원부와 ; 상기 광원부로부터의 광을 상기 광원부에 대향하는 입광면으로부터 입사시키고, 상기 액정 표시 패널과 대향하는 출광면으로부터, 광의 도광 방향과 대략 평행한 면내에 있어서 상기 출광면의 법선 방향으로부터 소정의 각도를 이루는 방향에 최대 강도의 지향성을 갖는 편광광을 출사하는 도광판을 구비하고,
상기 제 2 편광판은, 흡수형 편광자를 포함하는 편광부와 ; 상기 편광부의 도광판측에 배치되고, 상기 도광판측에 볼록한 주상의 단위 프리즘이 복수 배열된 프리즘부를 구비하고,
상기 도광판으로부터 출사되는 편광광은, 상기 출광면의 법선 방향을 극각 90°, 상기 도광판의 도광 방향을 방위각 0°- 180°방향으로 했을 때, 극각 50°∼ 80°또한 방위각 135°∼ 225°, 그리고 0°∼ 45°및 315°∼ 360°의 범위에 있어서의 출사광의 적분 강도 La 와, 전체 출사광의 적분 강도 Lt 의 비 La/Lt 가 0.3 이상인, 액정 표시 장치. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 제 2 편광판이, 상기 편광부와 상기 프리즘부 사이에 편광 선택 반사 시트를 추가로 구비하는, 액정 표시 장치. - 제 2 항에 있어서,
상기 편광 선택 반사 시트가, 투과축에 평행한 방향의 굴절률이 서로 실질적으로 동일하고, 또한 투과축에 직교하는 방향의 굴절률이 서로 상이한 2 종류의 층을 포함하는 다층 적층체인, 액정 표시 장치. - 제 1 항 내지 제 3 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
상기 제 2 편광판에 있어서, 상기 편광부의 투과축이 상기 프리즘의 능선 방향에 실질적으로 직교인, 액정 표시 장치. - 제 1 항 내지 제 4 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
상기 액정 셀이, 전계가 존재하지 않는 상태에서 호모지니어스 배열로 배향시킨 액정 분자를 포함하는 액정층, 또는 전계가 존재하지 않는 상태에서 호메오트로픽 배열로 배향시킨 액정 분자를 포함하는 액정층을 포함하는, 액정 표시 장치. - 제 1 항 내지 제 5 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
상기 제 2 편광판이, 상기 프리즘부의 상기 편광부측에 상기 프리즘부를 지지하는 기재부를 구비하고, 상기 기재부가 실질적으로 광학적으로 등방성을 갖는, 액정 표시 장치. - 제 1 항 내지 제 6 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
상기 제 2 편광판에 있어서, 상기 편광부와 상기 프리즘부가 확산 점착제층 또는 확산 접착제층을 개재하여 적층되어 있는, 액정 표시 장치. - 제 1 항 내지 제 7 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
광학 보상 필름을 추가로 구비하는, 액정 표시 장치. - 관찰자측에 형성되는 제 1 편광판과 배면측에 형성되는 제 2 편광판 사이에 액정 셀을 구비하는 액정 표시 패널과, 상기 액정 표시 패널을 배면측에서 조명하는 면광원 장치를 구비하고,
상기 면광원 장치는, 광원부와 ; 상기 광원부로부터의 광을 상기 광원부에 대향하는 입광면으로부터 입사시키고, 상기 액정 표시 패널과 대향하는 출광면으로부터, 광의 도광 방향과 대략 평행한 면내에 있어서 상기 출광면의 법선 방향으로부터 소정의 각도를 이루는 방향에 최대 강도의 지향성을 갖는 광을 출사하는 도광판을 구비하고,
상기 제 2 편광판은, 흡수형 편광자를 포함하는 편광부와 ; 상기 편광부의 도광판측에 배치되고, 상기 도광판측에 볼록한 주상의 단위 프리즘이 복수 배열된 프리즘부를 구비하고,
상기 도광판으로부터 출사되는 광은, 상기 출광면의 법선 방향을 극각 90°, 상기 도광판의 도광 방향을 방위각 0°- 180°방향으로 했을 때, 극각 50°∼ 80°또한 방위각 135°∼ 225°, 그리고 0°∼ 45°및 315°∼ 360°의 범위에 있어서의 출사광의 적분 강도 La 와, 전체 출사광의 적분 강도 Lt 의 비 La/Lt 가 0.3 이상인, 액정 표시 장치.
