유기감광체드럼(1)은 음의 대전 특성을 가지며 전하를 보지하고 대전부(2)는 코로나 방전을 이용하여 감광체 전면을 일정전위로 대전시킨다. 노광부(3)는 컴퓨터의 신호를 인지하여 감광체의 일정부위에 레이저를 주사하므로써 전위를 낮추어 정전잠상을 형성한다. 또 현상부(4)에서 비자성체 슬리이브(4e)에 포삽된 현상자극(46)은 교반기(4c)에서 마찰대전된 현상제를 브러쉬상으로 형성한다. 이때 현상제는 토너와 철분 캐리어가 혼합되어 있고 비자성 도전성 물질이 절단부(4g) 사이로 300-800 마이크로미터의 절단간격(B) 만큼 절단되며 슬리이브의 회전에 따라 감 광체와 슬리이브의 현상간격(A)을 400-1100마이크로미터로 유지하면서 토너가 감광체에 현상된다. 이때 토너농도센서(4h)가 토너공급롤러(4b)를 제어하고 현상된 토너는 전사부(5)에서 용지(10)위로 이동된다. 이때 폴리우레탄재질의 클리이닝부(6)는 잔류토너를 제거하고 제전부(7)는 감광체 위의 잔류전위를 소멸한다.
