Abstract

바텀샤시의 단부를 소정형상으로 절곡시켜 램프 삽입부를 형성하고, 도광판과 마주보는 일면에 빛을 반사시키는 반사막을 형성하여 램프 반사시트와 반사시트를 바텀샤시에 일체로 형성함으로써, 액정표시장치의 조립공정 수를 줄여 제품의 생산성을 향상시킬 수 있다.
또한, 바텀샤시가 램프 반사시트의 기능을 가지고 있으므로 램프에서 발산된 열이 바텀샤시 전면으로 방출됨으로써, 빛의 휘도를 상승시킬 수 있다.

Description

액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리{Back light assembly of liquid crystal display}
본 발명은 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리에 관한 것으로, 더욱 상세하게는 램프를 감싸는 램프 반사시트와 도광판의 하부에 설치되는 반사시트 및 몰드프레임의 하부에 결합되는 바텀샤시를 일체로 형성하여 조립성 및 방열효율을 향상시킨 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리에 관한 것이다.
일반적으로 널리 사용되고 있는 표시장치들 중의 하나인 CRT(Cathode Ray Tube)는 TV를 비롯해서 계측기기, 정보 단말기기 등의 모니터에 주로 이용되고 있으나, CRT 자체의 무게와 크기로 인해 전자 제품의 소형화, 경량화의 요구에 적극 대응할 수 없었다.
이러한, CRT를 대체하기 위해서 소형화, 경량화 및 저소비전력 등의 장점을 갖고 있는 액정표시장치의 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있으며, 최근에는 평판 표시장치로서의 역할을 충분히 수행할 수 있을 정도로 개발되어 액정표시장치의 수요는 계속적으로 증가되고 있는 실정이다.
이와 같은 액정표시장치는 LCD 패널 내부에 주입된 액정의 전기·광학적 성질을 이용한 표시장치이므로, 대부분의 액정표시장치의 경우 LCD 패널에 광을 조사하는 별도의 장치, 즉 백라이트 어셈블리가 반드시 필요로 한다.
백라이트 어셈블리는 수납공간이 형성된 몰드프레임(mold frame)과, 수납공간의 일측에 설치되어 빛을 발산하는 램프 어셈블리(lamp assembly)와, 수납공간의 기저면으로부터 차례대로 설치되어 광을 반사하고 안내하며 광의 휘도를 상승시키는 반사시트, 도광판 및 광학 시트들과, 몰드프레임의 하부에 결합되어 수납공간에 설치된 각 부품들을 지지해주는 바텀샤시와, 몰드프레임의 상부에서 결합되어 LCD 패널을 지지하는 탑샤시로 구성된다.
여기서, 램프 어셈블리는 빛을 발산하는 램프와, 램프의 양단에 삽입되어 램프를 보호하는 램프 홀더와, 램프의 외주면에서부터 도광판의 측면 소정영역까지 감싸고 램프에서 난반사된 빛을 도광판 쪽으로 반사시켜 주는 램프 반사시트로 구성된다.
이와 같이 구성된 백라이트 어셈블리와 LCD 패널을 조립하여 액정표시장치를 제조하기 위해서는 몰드프레임에 수납공간에 광학시트들을 먼저 설치하고, 몰드프레임의 측면에 램프 어셈블리를 설치하고, 램프 어셈블리의 램프 반사시트에 측면이 끼워지도록 도광판을 설치한 다음 도광판의 하부에 반사시트를 적층시킨다.
이후, 몰드프레임의 수납공간에 삽입된 각 부품들, 즉 광학시트들, 램프 어셈블리, 도광판, 반사시트를 지지하기 위해서 몰드프레임의 하부에 바텀샤시를 체결하고, 몰드프레임의 상부에 LCD 패널을 올려놓은 다음 몰드프레임의 상부에 탑샤시를 결합시킨다.
앞에서 상술한 과정을 거쳐 액정표시장치를 만들 경우 부품들의 개수가 많아 각 부품들을 상호 조립하는 과정이 복잡하고 많은 시간이 소요됨으로써 제품의 생산성이 저하된다.
다른 문제점은, 램프에서 발생된 고온의 열이 램프 반사시트로 전도된 후 램프 반사시트에서 바텀샤시로 전달되어 방열되는 것으로, 램프 반사시트에서 전달된 열이 바텀샤시의 전면에 걸쳐 방출되는 것이 아니라 램프 반사시트와 바텀샤시가 접해있는 부분에서만 부분적으로 열이 방출되므로 열방출 효율이 저하된다.
여기서, 램프에서 발생된 열에 의해 상승된 액정표시장치의 내부 온도와 램프에서 발산되는 빛의 휘도는 사이에는 밀접한 관계가 있는데, 액정표시장치의 내부 온도가 40∼50℃이상 상승될 경우 휘도는 계속적으로 저하된다.
따라서, 본 발명의 목적은 상기와 같은 문제점을 감안하여 안출된 것으로써, 액정표시장치의 부품 수를 줄여 조립성 및 제품 생산성을 향상시키는데 있다.
본 발명의 다른 목적은 바텀샤시의 전면으로 열을 방출시켜 램프의 휘도를 향상시키는데 있다.
본 발명의 또 다른 목적들은 다음의 상세한 설명과 첨부된 도면에 의해 보다 명확해 질 것이다.
도 1은 본 발명에 의한 백라이트 어셈블리를 나타낸 단면도이고,
도 2는 램프에서 발산된 열의 온도에 따라 빛의 휘도변화를 나타낸 그래프이다.
이와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위해서 본 발명은 램프에서 발산된 빛을 도광판의 입사면으로 반사시키는 램프 반사시트와, 도광판의 하부에 설치되어 도광판에서 새어나온 빛을 다시 도광판으로 반사시키는 반사시트 및 몰드프레임에 수납되는 부품들을 지지하는 바텀샤시를 일체로 형성한다.
이하, 본 발명에 의한 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리에 대해 첨부된 도면 도 1을 참조하여 설명하면 다음과 같다.
본 발명에 의한 액정표시장치(100)는 도 1에 도시된 바와 같이 상부면과 하부면이 관통되도록 수납홈(112,114)이 형성된 몰드프레임(110)과, 몰드프레임(110)의 상부에 형성된 수납홈(112)에 설치되어 정보를 표시하는 LCD 패널(120)과, 몰드프레임(110)의 하부에 형성되는 수납홈(114), 즉 LCD 패널(120)의 하부에 설치되는 광학 시트들(130)과, 광학 시트들(130)의 하부에 적재되는 도광판(140)과, 단부가 소정형상으로 절곡되어 내부에 램프(160)와 램프 홀더(165)가 끼워지며 수납홈(114)에 수납된 각 부품들을 지지하기 위해 몰드프레임(110)의 하부면에 결합되는 바텀샤시(150)로 구성된다.
여기서, 본 발명에 의한 바텀샤시는 도 1 또는 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이 바텀샤시(150)는 종래의 백라이트 어셈블리의 부품들 중 반사시트와 램프 반사시트 및 바텀샤시가 하나로 합쳐진 것으로, 바텀샤시(150)의 일면, 즉 도광판과 마주보는 면 전체에는 반사막(163)이 형성된다.
바람직하게, 반사막(163)은 반사율이 뛰어난 은이 코팅되어 형성된 것으로 램프(160)에서 발산된 빛과 도광판(140)에서 새어나온 빛을 도광판(140) 쪽으로 반사시켜 준다.
또한, 바텀샤시(150)의 네 개의 변 중 바텀샤시(150)의 길이방향 양변에는 램프 반사시트 역할을 하는 램프 삽입부(155)가 형성되는데, 램프 삽입부(155)는 바텀샤시(150)의 길이방향 양변으로부터 소정길이로 연장되어 도광판(140) 쪽으로 절곡된 것으로 "⊂" 형상을 갖는다.
램프 삽입부(165)에는 빛을 발산하는 램프(160)와 램프(160) 양단에 끼워져 램프(160)를 보호하고는 램프 홀더(165)가 삽입된다.
이와 같이 구성된 백라이트 어셈블리와 LCD 패널을 조립하는 과정을 개략적으로 설명하면 다음과 같다.
먼저, 몰드프레임(110)의 하부방향으로 형성된 수납홈(114)에 램프(160)에서 발산된 빛을 확산하고 집광하는 광학 시트들(130)을 올려놓고, 광학 시트들(130)의 하부에는 입사된 빛을 광학 시트들(130) 쪽으로 전달하는 도광판(140)이 놓여진다.
이와 별도로, 광원으로 사용되는 램프(160)의 길이방향 양단에 램프 홀더(165)를 끼운 다음 램프(160)와 램프 홀더(165)를 바텀샤시(150)의 단부에 형성된 램프 삽입부(155)에 끼운다.
이때, 램프 홀더(165)는 램프 삽입부(155)의 길이방향 양단에 억지끼워 맞춤되어 램프(160)가 램프 삽입부(155)에서 빠지는 것을 방지한다.
이와 같이 바텀샤시(150)의 길이방향 양단에 램프(160)가 끼워지면 바텀샤시(150)를 몰드프레임(110)의 하부면에 체결시켜 몰드프레임(110)에 수납된 각 부품들이 빠지는 것을 방지하는데, 이때 램프 삽입부(165)는 도광판(140)의 길이방향 양단을 삽입하여 도광판(140)의 양측면을 감싼다.
이후, 몰드프레임(110)의 상부면에 형성된 수납홈(112)에 정보를 표시하는 LCD 패널(120)을 올려놓고, LCD 패널(120)의 화면 비표시영역(도시 안됨)과 몰드프레임(110)의 측면을 감싸는 탑샤시(도시 안됨)를 몰드프레임(110)의 상부에서 덮어 몰드프레임(110)과 탑샤시를 체결시킨다.
앞에서 설명한 바와 같이 바텀샤시(150)가 램프 반사시트와 반사시트 기능을 같이 수행함으로써, 램프(160)에서 발산된 빛은 램프 삽입부(155)의 내측면에 도포된 반사막(153)에 의해 난반사되어 도광판(110)의 측면으로 입사된다.
또한, 도광판(140)의 하부면으로 새어나간 빛 역시 바텀샤시(150)의 일면에 도포된 반사막(153)에 의해 도광판(140)으로 다시 반사된다.
한편, 램프(160)에서 발생된 고온의 열은 곧바로 램프 삽입부(160)로 전도되어 외부로 방출되는데, 이때 램프 삽입부(155)와 바텀샤시(150)가 일체로 형성되기 때문에 램프(160)에서 발생된 열은 램프 삽입부(155)로부터 바텀샤시(150) 전면으로 전도됨으로써, 바텀샤시(150) 전체에서 열이 방출한다.
따라서, 액정표시장치의 내부 온도를 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이 빛의 휘도가 가장 좋은 온도, 예를 들어 약 45℃를 항상 유지할 수 있어 빛의 효율이 상승된다.
이상에서 설명한 바와 같이 본 발명은 램프 반사시트와 반사시트를 바텀샤시에 일체로 형성함으로써, 액정표시장치의 부품수가 줄어들어 조립성 및 제품의 생산성이 향상될 수 있는 효과가 있다.
또한, 바텀샤시가 램프 반사시트의 기능을 가지고 있으므로 램프에서 발산된 열이 바텀샤시 전면으로 방출됨으로써, 빛의 휘도를 상승시킬 수 있는 효과가 있다.

Claims (2)

  1. 상부면과 하부면이 관통되는 수납홈이 형성된 몰드프레임과;
    상기 몰드프레임의 하부면에 형성된 수납홈에 설치되어 빛을 확산하고 집광하는 광학 시트들과;
    상기 광학 시트들의 하부에 적층되어 빛을 안내하는 도광판과;
    상기 몰드프레임의 하부에 결합되어 상기 광학 시트들과 상기 도광판을 지지하며, 상기 도광판과 마주보는 일면에 빛을 반사시키는 반사막이 형성되고, 단부에서 소정길이로 연장되어 상기 도광판의 측면쪽으로 절곡된 램프 삽입부가 형성된 바텀샤시와;
    상기 램프 삽입부의 길이방향을 따라 설치되어 빛을 발산하는 램프와;
    상기 램프의 양단에 삽입되어 상기 램프를 보호하는 램프 홀더를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 반사막의 재질은 은인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리.
