Abstract
본 발명에 따르면, 보상필름과 내장형 위상자의 패터닝 공정없이도 고화질, 광시야각이 확보되는 효과가 있다. FFS(Fringe Field Switching) 모드를 사용하기 때문에 화소전극 위에 위치한 액정 분자들이 인접한 액정 분자들과의 탄성토크(elastic torque)로 인하여 회전할 수 있게 되어 고투과율의 특성도 갖는다. 또한 반사영역에 코팅된 절연층 두께 조절에 의해 단일감마특성을 맞출 수 있으며, 액정의 선경사각(Pretilt angle) 제어를 통한 광학특성 세팅(setting)이 가능하여 제조공정이 용이한 단일 셀갭의 형태로 구현할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
Description
도 2는 반사영역에서 액정의 비틀림각(Twist angle)에 따른 초기 빛샘을 나타내는 그래프이다.
도 3은 반사영역과 투과영역의 셀갭이 4㎛로 동일할 때, 반사영역에서 액정의 선경사각(Pretilt angle)에 따른 초기 빛샘을 나타내는 그래프이다.
도 4는 반사영역에서 컬러필터층의 두께와 전압 인가에 따른 투과율 곡선 및 반사율 곡선을 나타내는 그래프이다.
도 5는 반사영역에서 컬러필터층의 두께가 3㎛일 때의 전압 인가에 따른 노말라이즈된 투과율 곡선 및 반사율 곡선을 나타내는 그래프이다.
도 6은 입사광의 파장이 550nm일 때의 등-명암대비율 곡선을 나타낸 것이다. (a)는 투과영역, (b)는 반사영역을 나타낸다.

Claims (14)
- 투과영역과 반사영역이 정의된 제 1 기판 및 제 2 기판;
상기 제 1 기판 상에 순차로 형성된 공통전극 및 하부 절연체층;
상기 하부 절연체층 상에 형성되며, 상기 투과영역에서는 격자형상 및 상기 반사영역에서는 플레인(plain) 형상으로 형성된 화소전극;
상기 반사영역의 화소전극 상에 형성된 반사층;
상기 제 2 기판 하부의 반사영역에 형성된 상부 공통전극; 및
상기 제 1 기판과 제 2 기판 사이에 형성되며, 투과영역에서는 액정이 비틀림각(Twist angle) 없이 배향되고, 및 반사영역에서는 액정이 소정의 비틀림각(Twist angle) 및 선경사각(Pretilt angle)을 구비하여 배향되는 액정층을 포함하는 액정표시장치로서, 상기 액정표시장치는 상기 투과영역과 상기 반사영역의 셀갭이 같고, 상기 반사영역에서 액정의 비틀림각(Twist angle)은 50~70도이고, 상기 반사영역에서의 액정은 위상지연 값이 λ/4를 만족하는 소정 각도의 선경사각(Pretilt angle)을 갖되, 상기 반사영역 액정의 선경사각이 투과영역 액정의 선경사각보다 큰 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치. - 삭제

- 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 투과영역의 화소전극은 폭을 1~10㎛, 화소전극 간 간격을 1.5~20㎛로 패턴하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.

상기 제 1 기판과 제 2 기판 사이에 액정층을 형성하되, 투과영역에서는 액정이 비틀림각(Twist angle) 없이 배향하고, 반사영역에서는 액정이 소정의 비틀림각(Twist angle) 및 선경사각(Pretilt angle)을 구비하도록 배향하는 액정층 형성단계를 포함하는 액정표시장치 제조방법으로서,
상기 제조방법은 상기 투과영역과 상기 반사영역의 셀 갭을 같도록 형성하고,
상기 액정층 형성단계는 상기 비틀림각(Twist angle)을 50~70도로 제어하고, 상기 반사영역의 위상지연 값이 λ/4를 갖도록 상기 선경사각(Pretilt angle)을 제어하되, 상기 반사영역 액정의 선경사각을 투과영역 액정의 선경사각보다 크게 형성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치 제조방법. - 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 액정층 형성단계는 광배향 방법을 사용하거나 이온 빔(Beam)을 조사하거나 액정을 러빙(rubbing)하는 방법에 의해 상기 비틀림각(Twist angle)을 제어하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치 제조방법.
- 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 액정층 형성단계는 광배향 방법을 사용하거나 이온 빔(Beam)을 조사하거나 반응성 메조겐(Reactive mesogen, RM)을 도핑한 액정에 자외선을 조사하는 방법에 의해 선경사각(Pretilt angle)을 제어하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치 제조방법.
