Abstract
Description
Claims (14)
- 일면(一面)측에 매트릭스 형상으로 배열 형성된 화소 전극과, 각각의 화소 전극에 대응하여 마련된 스위칭 소자를 구비한 어레이 기판과, 해당 어레이 기판과 대향하여 배치된 대향 기판과, 상기 양 기판 사이에 위치한 액정층을 구비한 액정 장치로서,상기 액정층이 부(負)의 유전 이방성을 갖는 액정으로 이루어지고,상기 대향 기판의 액정층측에, 상기 화소 전극 사이의 경계를 따라 연장되는, 평면에서 보아, 스트라이프 형상의 배향 제어 전극이 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 배향 제어 전극에 인가되는 전압이, 인접하여 형성된 배향 제어 전극에서 반대의 극성으로 되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 배향 제어 전극에 인가되는 전압이, 상기 화소 전극의 최대 구동 전압보다도 작은 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 화소 전극의 가장자리를 따라 서로 교차하는 방향으로 연장되는 주사선 및 데이터선이 형성되어 있고,당해 액정 장치의 구동 모드가 1H 반전 구동으로 되고, 또한, 상기 배향 제어 전극과 상기 주사선이 평면에서 보아 겹치도록 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 화소 전극의 가장자리를 따라 서로 교차하는 방향으로 연장되는 주사선 및 데이터선이 형성되어 있고,당해 액정 장치의 구동 모드가 S 반전 구동으로 되고, 또한, 상기 배향 제어 전극과 상기 데이터선이 평면에서 보아 겹치도록 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 대향 기판의 액정층측에 베타 형상의 공통 전극이 형성되고, 상기 공통 전극의 액정층측에 절연층을 거쳐서 상기 배향 제어 전극이 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 대향 기판의 액정층측에 평면에서 보아 스트라이프 형상의 공통 전극이 형성되어 있고, 상기 공통 전극의 기판측에, 해당 공통 전극 사이의 간극을 따라 연장되는 상기 배향 제어 전극이 절연층을 거쳐서 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 대향 기판의 액정층측에 평면에서 보아 스트라이프 형상의 공통 전극이 형성되고, 상기 공통 전극 사이의 간극에 해당 공통 전극과 평행하게 상기 배향 제어 전극이 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 배향 제어 전극이 차광막 또는 그 일부를 이루고 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 배향 제어 전극과 상기 대향 기판 사이에 컬러 필터가 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 액정층을 사이에 두고 양측에, 해당 액정층에 원형 편광된 광(circularly polarized light)을 입사시키기 위한 원형 편광된 광 입사 수단이 구비된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치.
- 청구항 1에 기재된 액정 장치의 구동 방법으로서,인접하는 상기 배향 제어 전극에, 반대 극성의 전압을 인가한 상태에서 상기 화소 전극을 구동하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치의 구동 방법.
- 제 12 항에 있어서,상기 배향 제어 전극으로의 전압 인가를 상기 화소 전극의 주사와 동기하여 행하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 장치의 구동 방법.
- 청구항 1에 기재된 액정 장치를 구비한 것을 특징으로 하는 전자 기기.
