Abstract

이동통신 단말기와 다른 장치와의 데이터 교환을 수행하기 위해 이동통신 모뎀(Mobile Station Modem: MSM) 내에 구성된 제 1, 제 2 범용 비동기화 송수신기(Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter: UART1, UART2)와; 핸즈프리 장치와의 신호처리를 수행하기 위해 이동통신 모뎀(MSM)내에 구성된 핸즈프리 기능부와; 이동통신 단말기 모뎀 내의 핸즈프리 기능부 및 UART2(Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter)의 각 입·출력단에 연결되며, 상기 이동통신 모뎀에서 출력되는 제어신호에 따라 스위칭 동작하는 멀티플렉서(Mulitplexer)와; 외부 기기와의 인터페이스를 위해 상기 멀티플렉서에 연결된 19핀 리셉터클(Receptacle)을 포함하여 이루어지는 이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 UART 회로.

Description

이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 ＵＡＲＴ회로{A Dual UART circuit for a mobile telecommunication device}
도 1은 종래 기술에 따른 이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 UART 회로의 일례를 나타낸 블럭도이다.
도 2는 종래 기술에 따른 이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 UART 회로의 다른 예를 나타낸 블럭도이다.
도 3은 본 발명에 따른 이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 UART 회로를 나타낸 블럭도이다.
본 발명은 이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 UART(Dual Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter: Dual-UART)회로에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는 종래의 19핀 리셉터클을 사용하면서 듀얼 UART를 동시에 사용할 수 있는 회로에 관한 것이다.
이동 통신 단말기는 리셉터클(receptacle)과 같은 연결장치를 통해 핸즈프리 장치 또는 데이터통신 케이블과 연결된다. 상기 데이터 통신 케이블은 단말기와 컴퓨터를 연결하기 위한 것이다. 리셉터클을 통해 컴퓨터와 연결된 단말기는 무선 모뎀의 역할을 수행한다. 사용자는 이러한 연결을 통해 무선 인터넷 또는 무선 데이터 통신을 수행할 수 있다.
도 1은 종래 기술에 따른 이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 UART 회로의 일례를 나타낸 블럭도이다. 도시된 바와 같이, 이동통신 단말기 모뎀(Mobile Station Modem: MSM)(110)와 19핀 리셉터클(receptacle)(120)의 연결 관계를 나타내고 있다.
이동통신 모뎀(110)내의 핸즈 프리 기능부(111) 및 제 1 범용 비동기화 송수신기(UART1)(112)와 19핀 리셉터클(120)의 사이에 신호 처리 관계를 보여주고 있다.
도면에는 간략하게 도시되어 있지만, 핸즈프리와 관련된 기능의 처리에는 다음과 같이 6개 핀이 할당된다.
1) PCM RX: 핸즈프리 음성신호 입력
2) PCM TX: 핸즈프리 음성신호 출력
3) PCM CLOCK: 핸즈프리 PCM 클럭
4) PCM SYNC: 핸즈프리 PCM 동기신호
5) RING: 핸즈프리 RING 단자
6) HAND-FREE MODE: 핸즈프리 모드 인식 단자
데이터 통신과 관련된 기능은 다음과 같이 7개의 핀이 할당된다.
1) RXD: 데이터 수신
2) TXD: 데이터 송신
3) RI: 호출표시
4) DCD: 데이터 반송파 감지
5) RFR: 수신대기
6) CTS: 전송 준비 완료
7) DTR: 데이터 단말 준비
기타 기능 단자로는 6개의 핀이 할당된다.
1) POWER (4.2V): 단말 내부 전원 공급
2) POWER (4.2V): 밧데리 충전 전원 공급
3) POWER GROUND: 전원 접지 (3개 단자 할당)
4) 외부 전원 인식 단자: 3.3V 이하
휴대폰의 부가 기능 개발로 인해 Dual-UART의 동시 사용이 필연적이 되었다. 그러나, 기존의 19핀 리셉터클 부품을 사용한다면, 한정된 핀의 개수로 인해 듀얼(dual) UART를 동시에 사용할 수 없는 문제점이 발생되었다. 종래의 19핀 리셉터클은 핸즈프리 및 데이터 통신(1개의 UART), 기타 기능으로 사용되었다. 부가 기능 사용의 확대로 인해 Dual-UART를 동시에 사용해야 하는 경우가 발생되면서, 기존의 19핀 리셉터클 부품을 사용할 수 없게 되었다.
도 2는 종래 기술에 따른 이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 UART 회로의 다른 예를 나타낸 블럭도이다. 도 2에서 보는 바와 같이, 24핀 리셉터클(220)을 사용하여야 했다. 도 1에서와 달리, 이동통신 모뎀(310) 내의 핸즈프리 기능부(211)와, 제 1 UART1(212) 및 UART2(213)과 24핀 리셉터클(220)와 연결되어 데이터 송·수신 및 신호처리가 이루어진다.
이와 같이, 19핀 리셉터클을 사용하면 한정된 핀의 개수로 인해 Dual UART를 동시에 사용할 수 없는 불편함이 있었다.
본 발명은 19핀의 리셉터클을 이용하면서 두 개의 UART를 동시에 사용할 수 있는 Dual UART회로를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
이러한 목적을 달성하기 위한 본 발명에 따른 Dual UART회로는 이동통신 단말기와 다른 장치와의 데이터 교환을 수행하기 위해 이동통신 모뎀(Mobile Station Modem: MSM) 내에 구성된 제 1, 제 2 범용 비동기화 송수신기(Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter: UART1, UART2)와; 핸즈프리 장치와의 신호처리를 수행하기 위해 이동통신 모뎀(MSM)내에 구성된 핸즈프리 기능부와; 상기 제 2 범용 비동기화 송수신기의 사용 여부를 제어하기 위한 스위칭 신호를 출력하는 마이크로제어기와; 이동통신 단말기 모뎀 내의 핸즈프리 기능부 및 UART2(Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter)의 각 입·출력단에 연결되며, 상기 마이크로 제어기로부터 출력되는 제어신호에 따라 스위칭 동작하는 멀티플렉서(Mulitplexer)와; 외부 기기와의 인터페이스를 위해 상기 멀티플렉서에 연결된 19핀 리셉터클(Receptacle)을 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 구성의 특징으로 한다.
이하에서, 첨부된 도면을 참조로 본 발명에 따른 Dual UART 회로의 구성과 그에 따른 동작을 설명하기로 한다.
도 3은 본 발명에 따른 이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 UART 회로를 나타낸 블럭도이다. 도시된 바와 같이, UART1(313)은 기존과 동일하게 사용하고, UART2(312)는 핸즈프리 기능부(311)와 스위칭하여 사용하도록 구현하였다. 이는 핸즈프리 기능부(311)를 사용할 때는 UART2(312)를 사용하지 않는다는 점에 착안한 것이다.
이동통신 모뎀(MSM)(310)내에는 제1, 제2 범용 비동기화 송수신기(UART1, UART2)와, 핸즈프리 기능부(311)가 구성되어 있다. 이러한 구성요소의 기능은 종래와 동일하며 본 발명의 요지를 벗어날 우려가 있어 구체적 설명은 생략한다. 다만, 종래와 달리, 이동통신 모뎀(MSM)(310)과 19핀 리셉터클(320)의 사이에 멀티플렉서(330)가 구성되어 있다. 상기 핸즈프리 기능부(311)와 제2범용 비동기화 송수신기(UART2)(312)의 각 입·출력단에는 멀티플렉서(Mulitplexer)(330)이 연결되어 서로 신호(PCM RX/PCM TX 또는 UART2 RXD/UART2 TXD)를 주고 받는다. 또한, 상기 멀티플렉서(330)에는 상기 이동통신 모뎀(310)으로부터 출력되는 제어신호(UART2 SEL)가 제공된다. 외부 기기와의 인터페이스를 위해 상기 멀티플렉서(330) 및 이동통신 모뎀(310)에는 19핀 리셉터클(Receptacle)(330)이 연결되어 신호(HFK_PCM_RX, HFK_PCM_TX)를 주고 받는다.
상기 이동 통신 모뎀(310)으로부터 출력되는 제어신호(UART2 SEL)는 제2범용 비동기화 송수신기의 동작을 선택하기 위한 신호이다. 즉, 앞에서도 언급한 바와 같이, 핸즈프리 기능부(311)를 사용할 때는 UART2(312)를 사용하지 않는 점을 이용한 것이다. 이 제어신호(UART2 SEL)에 의해 상기 멀티플렉서(330)가 스위칭 동작한다. 그 스위칭 상태에 따라 19핀 리셉터클(320)과 이동통신 모뎀(310) 내의 핸 즈프리 기능(311) 또는 UART2(312)의 접속 여부가 결정된다.
이상에서 설명한 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 듀얼 UART 회로는 종래의 19핀 리셉터클을 그대로 이용하면서 단지 2개의 핀만 추가시켜 Dual UART를 동시에 사용할 수 있는 효과를 갖는다.

Claims (1)

  1. 이동통신 단말기와 다른 장치와의 데이터 교환을 수행하기 위해 이동통신 모뎀(Mobile Station Modem: MSM) 내에 구성된 제 1, 제 2 범용 비동기화 송수신기(Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter: UART1, UART2)와;
    핸즈프리 장치와의 신호처리를 수행하기 위해 이동통신 모뎀(MSM)내에 구성된 핸즈프리 기능부와;
    이동통신 단말기 모뎀 내의 핸즈프리 기능부 및 UART2(Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter)의 각 입·출력단에 연결되며, 상기 이동통신 모뎀에서 출력되는 제어신호에 따라 스위칭 동작하는 멀티플렉서(Mulitplexer)와;
    외부 기기와의 인터페이스를 위해 상기 멀티플렉서에 연결된 19핀 리셉터클(Receptacle)을 포함하여 이루어지는 이동통신 단말기의 듀얼 UART 회로.
