Abstract

몰드프레임의 수납공간 기저면에 탄성력을 갖는 쿠션 시트를 놓고 쿠션 시트의 상부면에 반사판, 도광판, 광학 시트들을 차례대로 적재시킨 후 광학 시트들의 상부면과 접하도록 LCD 패널을 올려놓으면 쿠션 시트가 반사판, 도광판, 광학 시트들을 LCD 패널 쪽으로 밀어 광학 시트들과 LCD 패널을 서로 밀착시킴으로써 광학 시트들과 LCD 패널 사이에 공기가 존재하는 것을 방지한다.
이와 같이 광학 시트들과 LCD 패널 사이에 공기가 존재하지 않으면 LCD 패널이 광학 시트들을 균일하게 가압하므로 열팽창된 광학 시트들이 수축될 때 원래의 상태로 복원되어 광학 시트들이 변형되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
또한, 광학 시트류와 LCD 패널 사이에 공기가 존재하지 않고 쿠션 시트의 두께가 얇기 때문에 액정표시장치를 박형화할 수 있다.

Description

액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리
본 발명은 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리에 관한 것으로, 더욱 상세하게는 몰드프레임과 반사판 사이에 탄성력을 갖는 쿠션 시트(cushion sheet)를 설치하여 LCD 패널과 광학 시트들 사이에 공기를 완전히 제거하여 광학 시트류가 변형되는 것을 방지하고 액정표시장치를 박형화한 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리에 관한 것이다.
최근 소형화, 경량화 및 저소비전력 등의 장점으로 CRT(cathode ray tube)의 대체품으로 각광을 받고 있는 액정표시장치(Liquid Crystal Display module)는 LCD 패널 내부에 주입된 액정의 전기 광학적 성질을 이용한 표시장치이다.
일반적으로 사용되는 투과형 액정표시장치는 자체 발광을 하지 못하는 수광소자이기 때문에 빛을 발산하고 LCD 패널 쪽으로 빛을 전달하는 백라이트 어셈블리(back light assembly)가 반드시 필요하다. 액정표시장치의 성능은 LCD 패널뿐만 아니라 백라이트 어셈블리의 성능에 의존하는 바가 크며, 액정표시장치의 두께 또한 백라이트 어셈블리를 구성하는 각 부재들의 두께에 의해 결정된다.
이러한, 백라이트 어셈블리는 도 1에 도시된 바와 같이 상부에 수납공간(13)이 형성된 몰드프레임(10)과, 수납공간(13)의 측면에 설치되어 액정표시장치(1)의 광원으로 사용되는 램프 어셈블리(20)와, 수납공간(13)의 기저면에 설치되어 빛을 반사하는 반사판(30)과, 반사판(30)의 상부에 적재되어 LCD 패널(60) 쪽으로 빛을 안내하는 도광판(40)과, 도광판(40)의 상부에 놓여져 빛을 확산하고 집광하는 광학 시트들(50)로 구성된다.
한편, 광학 시트들(50)의 상부에는 화상을 디스플레이하는 LCD 패널(60)이 놓여지는데, LCD 패널(60)은 광학 시트들(50)과 약 0.2～0.3㎜ 정도 이격되어 설치된다. 이는, 광학 시트들(50)과 LCD 패널(60) 사이에 0.2～0.3㎜의 공기층(65)을 형성하기 위한 것으로, 공기층(65)은 광학 시트들(50)을 통과한 빛을 확산시켜 액정표시장치(1)의 휘도를 상승시키는 역할을 한다.
그러나, 앞에서 설명한 바와 같이 광학 시트들과 LCD 패널 사이에 빛의 휘도를 상승시키기 위해 공기층을 형성할 경우 열팽창된 광학 시트들의 변형이 촉진되어 액정표시장치의 신뢰성이 저하된다.
이는, 램프 어셈블리에서 발생된 열에 의해 광학 시트들이 열팽창된 후 수축될 때 광학 시트들의 상부에서 광학 시트류들 가압하는 부재가 존재하지 않기 때문에 광학 시트들이 원래의 상태로 복원되지 않아 광학 시트들에 움이 발생된다.
또한, 광학 시트들과 LCD 패널 사이에 형성되는 공기층의 두께로 인해 액정표시장치의 두께가 두꺼워지는 문제점이 있다.
따라서, 본 발명의 목적은 상기와 같은 문제점을 감안하여 안출된 것으로, 공기층을 제거하고 광학 시트류를 LCD 패널에 밀착시켜 액정표시장치의 신뢰성을 향상시키고 액정표시장치를 박형화시키는데 있다.
본 발명의 다른 목적은 다음의 상세한 설명과 첨부된 도면으로부터 보다 명확해 질 것이다.
이와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위해 본 발명은 몰드프레임의 수납공간의 기저면에 탄성력을 갖는 쿠션 시트를 올려놓고, 쿠션 시트의 상부면에 반사판, 도광판, 광학 시트류를 차례대로 적층시킨 후에 광학 시트들과 접하도록 LCD 패널을 광학 시트들의 상부에 설치한다.
이하, 본 발명에 의한 액정표시장치의 구조를 첨부된 도면 도 2를 참조하여 설명하면 다음과 같다.
도 2에 도시된 바와 같이 몰드프레임(110)의 상부면에 형성된 수납공간(113)의 일측면에는 빛을 발산하여 액정표시장치(100)의 광원으로 사용되는 램프 어셈블리(120)가 설치되고, 수납공간(113)의 기저면에는 탄성력을 갖는 사각형상의 쿠션 시트(170)가 놓여진다.
바람직하게, 쿠션 시트(170)의 재질은 실리콘 고무로, 두께는 0.05～0.1㎜이다.
또한, 쿠션 시트(170)의 상부면에는 쿠션 시트(170)의 형상과 대응되는 반사판(130)이 놓여지고, 반사판(130)의 상부에는 램프 어셈블리(120)에서 입사된 빛의 양을 제어하여 상부방향으로 안내하는 도광판(140)이 적재되며, 도광판(140)의 상부에는 도광판(140)에서 안내된 빛을 확산하는 확산시트(153)와 확산된 빛을 집광하여 휘도를 상승시키는 프리즘 시트(155)로 구성된 광학 시트들(150)이 놓여진다.
한편, 광학 시트들(150)의 상부면에는 프리즘 시트(155)에서 전달된 빛을 이용하여 정보를 표시하는 LCD 패널(160)이 놓여지는데, LCD 패널(160)과 광학 시트들(150) 사이에 공기가 존재하는 것을 방지하기 위해 LCD 패널(160)과 광학 시트들(150) 사이의 갭을 최소화한다. 이때, 쿠션 시트(170), 반사판(130), 도광판(140), 광학 시트들(150)을 합한 두께가 초기에 설정한 공차보다 높아서는 안된다. 이는, 수납공간(113)에 놓여진 쿠션 시트(170), 반사판(130), 도광판(140), 광학 시트들(150)을 합한 두께가 초기 설정 공차를 넘을 경우 탑샤시(180)가 몰드프레임(110)에 체결되지 않으므로 액정표시장치(100)의 조립이 불가능해지기 때문이다.
여기서, 탑샤시(180)는 LCD 패널(160)의 상부면에 덮여지고 몰드프레임(110)의 측면에 형성된 후크(도시 안됨)와 체결되어 몰드프레임(110)에 수납된 각 부재들이 몰드프레임(110)에서 이탈되는 것을 방지한다.
앞에서 설명한 바와 같이 탄성력을 갖는 쿠션 시트(170)가 수납공간(113)의 기저면과 반사판(130) 사이에 설치되면 쿠션 시트(170)는 반사판(130), 도광판(140), 광학 시트들(150), LCD 패널(160)의 무게에 의해 압축되면서 반작용으로 반사판(130)과 도광판(140) 및 광학 시트들(150)을 LCD 패널(160) 쪽으로 밀어 광학 시트들(150)과 LCD 패널(160)을 완전히 밀착시킨다.
광학 시트들(150)과 LCD 패널(160)이 완전히 밀착되면 평탄도가 서로 일치되지 않아 확산시트(153)와 프리즘 시트(155) 및 LCD 패널(160) 사이에 발생된 갭이 제거됨으로써, 확산시트(153)와 프리즘 시트(155) 및 LCD 패널(160) 사이에 존재하는 공기도 완전히 제거된다.
이와 같이 광학 시트들(150)과 LCD 패널(160) 사이에 공기가 존재하지 않으면 LCD 패널(160)이 광학 시트들(150)을 균일하게 가압함으로 램프 어셈블리(120)에서 발생된 열에 의해 팽창된 광학 시트들(150)이 수축될 때 원래의 상태로 복원되기 때문에 광학 시트들(150)에 움이 발생되지 않는다.
또한, 쿠션 시트(170)의 두께가 종래의 공기층(65) 두께보다 얇기 때문에 액정표시장치(100)의 두께가 얇아진다.
이상에서 설명한 바와 같이 본 발명은 몰드프레임의 수납공간 기저면에 탄성력을 갖는 쿠션 시트를 놓고 쿠션 시트의 상부면에 반사판, 도광판, 광학 시트들을 차례대로 적재시킨 후 광학 시트들의 상부면과 접하도록 LCD 패널을 올려놓으면 쿠션 시트가 반사판, 도광판, 광학 시트들을 LCD 패널쪽으로 밀어 광학 시트들과 LCD 패널을 서로 밀착시킴으로써 광학 시트들과 LCD 패널 사이에 공기가 존재하는 것을 방지한다.
이와 같이 광학 시트들과 LCD 패널 사이에 공기가 존재하지 않으면 LCD 패널이 광학 시트들을 균일하게 가압하므로 열팽창된 광학 시트들이 수축될 때 원래의 상태로 복원되어 광학 시트들이 변형되는 것을 방지할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
또한, 광학 시트류와 LCD 패널 사이에 공기가 존재하지 않고 쿠션 시트의 두께가 얇기 때문에 액정표시장치를 박형화할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
도 1은 종래의 액정표시장치 구조를 나타낸 단면도이고,
도 2는 본 발명에 의한 액정표시장치의 구조를 도시한 단면도이다.

Claims (3)

  1. 상부면 소정영역에 수납공간이 형성된 몰드프레임과, 상기 수납공간의 기저면에서부터 차례대로 적재되는 반사판, 도광판, 광학 시트들 및 LCD 패널을 포함하는 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리에 있어서,
    상기 수납공간의 기저면과 상기 반사판 사이에 배치되어, 상기 광학 시트들과 상기 LCD 패널을 탄성력으로 밀착시키는 쿠션 시트를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 쿠션 시트는 실리콘 고무인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리.
  3. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 쿠션 시트의 두께는 0.05～0.1㎜인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치의 백라이트 어셈블리.
