Abstract

본 발명은 원격 서버(remote server)로부터 비디오 게임 프로그램을 수신하는 비디오 게임 카트리지(video game cartridge)에 관한 것이다.

Claims (11)

  1. 사용자가 프로그램을 요구하고 사용할 수 있게 하는 장치에 있어서, (a) 상기 프로그램을 수신하고, 또한 사용자에 의해 실행되도록 허용되는 상기 프로그램의 프레임 수를 나타내는 프레임 카운트(aframe count)를 수신하는 수신기와; (b) 상기 수신기에 의해 수신된 상기 프로그램 및 상기 프레임 카운트를 저장하는 메모리와; (c) 상기 사용자에 의해 입력이 상기 프로그램에 활성적으로 제공될 때 상기 프레임 카운트를 변경하는 카운터(a counter)로서, 상기 카운터는 상기 사용자에 의해 입력이 상기 프로그램에 제공되지 않을 경우 상기 프레임 카운트를 변경하지 않으며, 상기 카운터가 사전설정된 한계 카운트(a predetermined limit)에 도달하면 사용자는 상기 프로그램을 더 이상 사용할 수 없는, 상기 카운터를 포함하는 프로그램의 요구 및 사용을 가능케하는 장치.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 프레임 카운트가 저장될 상기 메모리내의 어드레스(an address)를 랜덤하게(randomly) 결정하는 수단을 더 포함하며, 상기 어드레스는 상기 사용자에게 알려져 있지 않은 프로그램의 요구 및 사용을 가능케하는 장치.
  3. 사용자가 프로그램을 요구하고 사용할 수 있게하는 방법에 있어서, (a) 요구에 응답하여, 게임 프로그램을 수신하고, 사용자에 의해 사용되도록 허용되는 상기 프로그램의 프레임 수를 나타내는 프레임 카운트를 수신하는 단계와; (b) 상기 수신기에 의해 수신된 상기 프로그램 및 상기 프레임 카운트를 메모리에 저장하는 단계와; (c) 사용자가 상기 프로그램을 활성적으로 사용하면 상기 프레임 카운트를 변경하는 단계로서, 사용자가 상기 프로그램을 사용하지 않으면 상기 프레임 카운트는 변경이 중지되고, 상기 카운터가 사전설정된 한계 카운트에 도달하면 사용자는 상기 프로그램을 더 이상 사용할 수 없는, 상기 프레임 카운트 변경 단계를 포함하는 프로그램의 요구 및 사용을 가능케하는 방법.
  4. 제3항에 있어서, 상기 프레임 카운트는 상기 메모리내의 랜덤하게 설정된 기억 장소(a randomly determined location)에 저장되는 프로그램의 요구 및 사용을 가능케하는 방법.
  5. 비디오 게임기와 동작을 위해 상기 비디오 게임기에 접속되어, 사용자가 원격 위치된 서버(a remotely located server)로부터 수신되는 비디오 게임 프로그램(a video game program)을 요구하고 플레이할 수 있도록 하는 비디오 게임 카트리지(a video game cartridge)에 있어서, (a) 사용자의 요구에 응답하여 상기 서버로부터 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램을 수신하고, 또한 사용자에 의해 플레이되도록 허용되는 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램의 프레임의 수를 나타내는 프레임 카운트를 수신하는 수신기와; (b) 상기 수신기에 의해 수신된 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램 및 상기 프레임 카운트를 저장하는 메모리와; (c) 사용자가 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램을 활성적으로 플레이할 때 상기 프레임 카운트를 변경하는 카운터로서, 사용자가 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램을 플레이하지 않으면 상기 카운터는 카운터의 변경을 중지하고, 상기 카운터가 사용자에 의해 상기 프레임의 수 동안 상기 비디오 게임의 플레이가 완료되었음을 나타내는 사전설정된 한계 카운트에 도달되면, 사용자는 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램을 더 이상 플레이할 수 없는, 상기 카운터를 포함하는 비디오 게임 카트리지.
  6. 제5항에 있어서, 상기 프레임 카운트가 저장될 상기 메모리내의 어드레스를 랜덤하게 결정하는 수단을 더 포함하는 비디오 게임 카트리지.
  7. 제5항에 있어서, 사용자로부터의 상기 요구를 상기 서버에 전송하여, 비디오 게임 프로그램이 플레이되도록 하는 모뎀을 더 포함하는 비디오 게임 카트리지.
  8. 제5항에 있어서, 상기 메모리는 비-휘발성 메모리(a non-volatile memory)인 비디오 게임 카트리지.
  9. 제8항에 있어서, 상기 카운터내에 표시되는 상기 프레임 카운트는 상기 비디오 게임기의 전원이 턴-오프(turn-off)될 때 상기 메모리에 저장되는 비디오 게임 카트리지.
  10. 제9항에 있어서, 상기 게임기의 전원이 턴-온(turn-on)될 때 상기 메모리에 저장되는 상기 프레임 카운트를 인출(fetch)하는 수단을 더 포함하는 비디오 게임 카트리지.
  11. 비디오 게임기의 동작을 위해 상기 비디오 게임기에 접속되어, 사용자가 원격 위치된 서버로부터 수신되는 비디오 게임 프로그램을 요구하고 플레이할 수 있도록 하는 비디오 게임 카트리지에 있어서, (a) 서버로부터 상기 비디오 게임을 수신하기 위해 전화는 케이블 네트워크를 통해 사용자로부터의 요구를 전송하고, 상기 전화 또는 케이블 네트워크를 통해 상기 서버로부터 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램 및 프레임 카운트를 수신하는 모뎀으로서, 상기 프레임 카운트는 상기 요구에 응답하여 사용자에 의해 플레이되도록 허용되는 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램의 사전설정된 프레임의 수를 나타내는 상기 모뎀과; (b) 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램 및 상기 프레임 카운트를 저장하는 비-휘발성 메모리와; (c) 플레이어가 상기 비디오 게임을 활성적으로 플레이 할 때 상기 프레임 카운트를 변경하는 카운터와; (d) 상기 비디오 게임기의 전원이 턴-오프될 때 상기 메모리내에 상기 카운터의 변경된 프레임 카운트를 저장하는 수단과; (e) 플레이어가 상기 비디오 게임의 플레이를 재개하면 상기 단계(d)의 상기 메모리에 저장된 상기 변경된 프레임 카운트를 인출하는 수단으로서, 상기 카운터의 상기 프레임 카운트가 사용자에 의해 상기 사전설정된 프레임의 수 동안 상기 비디오 게임이 플레이되었음을 나타내는 사전설정된 한계 카운트에 도달하면 사용자는 상기 비디오 게임 프로그램의 플레이를 더 이상 수행할 수 없는, 상기 인출 수단을 포함하는 비디오 게임 카트리지.
