Claims

A fairway-type golf club head,
The golf club includes a club head, the club head comprising:
a main body portion comprising a front portion having a front opening, a rear portion, a toe portion, a heel portion, a sole defining an insert recess, and a crown return, the rear portion, the toe portion, the heel portion, the sole, and the crown return defining a crown window;
a face cup received within the front opening, the face cup including a striking face having a geometric center;
a sole insert received within the insert recess;
a crown insert received within the crown window, the crown insert and the main body crown return defining a crown;
The club head comprises:
a ground surface in contact with the sole of the club head;
a loft surface tangent to the striking face at the geometric center;
a coordinate system having an origin at the geometric center of the striking face and having an X-axis, a Y-axis, and a Z-axis;
The Z axis extends parallel to the ground surface in the front-rear direction,
the Y-axis extends perpendicular to the Z-axis in a crown-sole direction;
the X-axis extends perpendicular to the Y-axis and the Z-axis in a heel-toe direction;
The club head further comprises:
a YZ plane passing through the geometric center and aligned along the Y axis and the Z axis;
a force line impact point (FLIP) located on the striking face and on the YZ plane at a vertical distance ranging from 0.55 inches to 0.75 inches above the ground surface;
a force line impact point (FLIP) axis extending rearwardly from the FLIP and perpendicular to the striking face at the FLIP;
the CGs of the club head are located at _CGX1 , _CGY1 , and _CGZ1 ;
said _CGX1 being measured parallel to said X-axis from said geometric center, said _CGX1 being within the range of 0.010 inches to 0.020 inches;
the CGY ₁ is measured perpendicular to the Z-axis from the CG of the club head , the CGY ₁ being within the range of 0.20 inches to 0.30 inches;
said CGZ ₁ is measured rearwardly from said geometric center parallel to said Z-axis, said CGZ ₁ being within the range of 1.00 inches to 1.25 inches;
the _CGX1 , the _CGY1 , and the _CGZ1 define an imaginary rectangular box;
the CG of the club head is located within the imaginary rectangular box;
the club head CG is further located at CGF ₁ , measured perpendicular to the FLIP axis from the club head CG;
said CGF ₁ being in the range of 0.000 inches to 0.040 inches;

The fairway-type golf club head according to claim 1, wherein the insert recess is recessed into the sole portion toward the crown through an insert recess floor.

The sole insert is
a perimeter having a leading edge, a trailing edge, a heel side edge, and a toe side edge;
Main body flange,
A heel direction extension portion;
a toe directional extension, the heel directional extension and the toe directional extension being positioned near the leading edge and extending outwardly from the main body flange;
A top surface;
3. The fairway-type golf club head of claim 2, further comprising a bottom surface forming a portion of said sole.

a portion of the leading edge is non-parallel to a portion of the trailing edge;
4. The fairway-type golf club head of claim 3, wherein a portion of said heel side edge is non-parallel to a portion of said toe side edge.

The fairway-type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the sole insert has a mass between 70 grams and 90 grams.

the sole insert further having a sole insert center of gravity (CG);
the sole insert CG is located at sole insert CGY ₂ measured perpendicular to the ground surface;
6. The fairway-type golf club head of claim 5, wherein said sole insert CGY ₂ is between 0.05 inches and 0.15 inches.

the club head CG is further located at a club head CGY ₂ measured perpendicular to the ground surface;
the club head CGY ₂ is between 0.30 inches and 0.40 inches;
a first CG ratio between the club head CGY ₂ and the sole insert CGY ₂ being determined according to the following formula:

7. The fairway-type golf club head according to claim 6, wherein the above formula is satisfied.

8. The fairway-type golf club head according to claim 1, wherein the vertical distance from the ground surface is 0.65 inches.

The fairway-type golf club head according to any one of claims 1 to 8 , wherein the main body is made of a titanium alloy.

The fairway-type golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein the main body is made of fiber-reinforced plastic.

The fairway-type golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein the face cup is made of a steel alloy.

12. The fairway-type golf club head according to claim 1, wherein the crown insert has a density lower than the main body density and the face cup density.

13. The fairway-type golf club head according to claim 1, wherein the crown insert is wrapped around the main body and forms a part of the sole.

each of said series of points being tangent to a line drawn perpendicular to said ground plane when said golf club head is in an address position;
the perimeter being a set of the series of points;
the periphery defining an upper portion and a lower portion of the golf club head;
the upper portion is defined as a portion of the golf club head above the perimeter excluding the striking face;
14. The fairway-type golf club head of claim 1, wherein the lower portion is defined as a portion of the golf club head below the periphery excluding the striking face.

The fairway-type golf club head of claim 14, wherein the lower portion includes at least three different materials.

16. A fairway-type golf club head according to claim 14 or 15 , wherein the sole insert comprises at least 20% of the lower portion outer surface.

The fairway-type golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein the golf club head further comprises a removable rear weight.

18. The fairway-type golf club head of claim 17, wherein the rear weight has a mass within the range of 1 gram to 35 grams.
